Video editing problem

Post by antbedy »

I have dropped an AVI file into the timeline and attempted to edit it by clipping out unneeded portions. Now I have audio of the edited clip, but no video - only a still picture of the beginning of the clip. I tried converting the AVI file to MPG and have the same results. Once I start editing it, I lose video.

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, there are over 800 different video formats which use the .avi extension. In other words, apart from true uncompressed .avi, that extension is just a wrapper for a huge variety of formats with very different characteristics. So can you please right click on one of your .avi files in either the VS timeline or library window, and copy ALL its Properties here, or upload a screen grab. Then we will have a better idea of what we are dealing with.

just wondering antbedy - do you mean you see the timeline as in the image below - but the video still plays in the preview window.

then that is just a setting in VideoStudio - - go to "Settings >> Preferences" (or just press F6 with VS open)

in the dialogue box which opens up near the top is a drop down labelled "Clip Display Mode" change that to say "Thumbnail only" - click 'OK'

or if you really do mean you have no video then please do as Ken asked
