Defaut View Setting for Opening File

Post by Ian Green »

Hi All,

Just to show my ignorance (using PSP-X3 by the way) I cannot find anyway to set the default of FIT TO WINDOW when opening a file.

All files seem to come in very large and I then have to do a "Window > Fit To Window" to get it right.

Can anyone let me know how to change this please.

Thank you,

Ian

You can't....or at least you couldn't. I don't think this was ever fixed, it's an actual bug in X3. People complained all the time.

There is supposed to be an option in the general preferences for it somewhere but it never took.

I wonder if a script-let is a possible option or not. Scriptlets are scripts that run when you open an image into PSP from the shortcut. So it might not, I never tested the details and I don't have X3 to test with.

If you set "fit to window" to a shortcut key you could make it less annoying to view the image properly.

It's also possible to make a script that will run "fit to window" on all open images when used. So if you've opened 5 images and don't want to bother with resizing them all manually you could just run that script and they'd all fall into line.

Hi LeviFiction, and many thanks for your response.

I am grateful as I was going mad thinking I could not find a setting ------ you've confirmed that there isn't one.

Typical of Corel to NOT fix a problem.

I have just been and looked at the prospect of upgrading but ----- if I lived in America it would cost $49.99 or £32.99 but as I live in the UK, I have to pay £50.98 which is $78.67.

Now that is really profiteering as it is an electronic download so you don't even have shipping to consider.

I shall do what I should have done a long tme ago ------- move across to Photoshop.

Many thanks for all your help.

I have X3 and on XP Home.
When I load large images into X3 they always are totally viewable in their windows.
I have File> Preferences > General Program Preferences > View and all 5 boxes ticked.
When I roll my mouse wheel, the image size changes and when scaling down the surround window follows to match the image. This is one of the features I love about PSP and makes fo efficient placement and scaling of a number of image on the screen / workspace at one time.

I found by comparison with photoshop (CS2), that when I roll down the image gets smaller but the window stays and has to be dragged separately to make it smaller (or have to go to a menu and click fit to window / image.

I find it strange after complaining about extra cost of PSP you would then consider moving across to Photoshop and paying almost 10 times as much just to get a fit to window feature??
This wonder comes after reading the recent postings on Paintshop Pro What do you really Like where poster Klindar states
I used Photoshop for a couple of years waiting for PSP to support 48 images (which finally happened) but now that I'm back Photoshop shall remain history.
Good reading in that post to find that there are quite a few positive comparisons of PSP over Photoshop.
