Capturing music from CD's in Pro X3
When we capture music from CD's in Pro X3, the last few seconds of the songs get cut off. Or the recording skips, cuts out a few seconds of the song right before the end, and then captures the end of the song. It's an intermittent problem with no rhyme nor reason that we can figure out as to which songs are being affected. But once a song has been captured and the end garbled, that same song will always be garbled no matter how many times we delete the recording and recapture it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening or how we can prevent it?

Re: Capturing music from CD's in Pro X3
Does it happen if you rip the CD using, say, Nero and then using the music file in X3?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Capturing music from CD's in Pro X3
We've never tried recording in another program so don't know if the problem would still be there. Had hoped to get this problem corrected in Pro X3 just for the ease of doing it, but we may have to try other ways if we can't figure this out. Thanks for the response.

Hi
I have always use Real Player to copy the files to my hard drive.
Then I import to Video Studio. Real Player will do this automatically when inserting the disc.
If another program saves the files ok then it seems like a VS X3 problem otherwise it may be the disc.
Does it do this for all CD’s you use?

Re: Capturing music from CD's in Pro X3
Thanks for your response. No. It's an intermittent problem. Some songs capture perfectly, others are garbled at the end, even though they sound fine when we play them on the CD player. We'll try Real Player and Windows Media Player and see if we have the same problem. That should tell us if the problem is with Pro X3 or with the actual CD's we are using, though we don't know why they would sound okay when listening but would be garbled after capturing them in the program. Thanks for the advice.

Hi
I have never used Video Studio to rip an audio CD.
Well I have now and the sound is cut by a few seconds at the end of the song. Not good, that was using VS X4.
I will give the latest versions a go but I have a feeling they will be that same.
Then i will re-test Real Player.

Re: Capturing music from CD's in Pro X3
We ripped a song using Real Player and it saved the song in our music library with all the other songs we had previously ripped in Video Studio. The song was ripped perfectly with no blips or garbles, and we saved it as a *WAV file, just like the ones we saved in Video Studio. However, we cannot get the song out of the library and onto our timeline. When we view the library, the song is there, but when we open the music library in Video Studio the song is not there. We've had the same problem ripping music in Video Studio. When we rip a song in Video Studio, we have to click on "add to project after ripping" in order to get the song into Video Studio. When "add to project after ripping" is clicked, the song will go directly onto the timeline and it will also appear in the music library that is open on the interface above the toolbar. If "add to project after ripping" is not clicked, the song will go directly into the music library but will not appear in the music library on the interface, even thought the library is opened up in Video Studio. Then we can never get it out of the music library and into Video Studio. Is this another glitch in Video Studio Pro X3, or are we doing something wrong?

Re: Capturing music from CD's in Pro X3
I am just a little confused here. You say you saved it, but exactly where did you save it to? Normally, by default in Win 7, the music would be saved to the Music library of Windows, unless you designated another folder, or unless Real Player (which I refuse to use) has its own default folder; or else, did you actually save it to the samples folder within the main VS folder in Windows, where the audio sample files are stored?...we saved it as a *WAV file, just like the ones we saved in Video Studio. However, we cannot get the song out of the library and onto our timeline.
But regardless of where you actually saved it, I would not expect it to automatically appear in the VS audio library window unless I right clicked in that window and selected 'Insert Media Files', then navigated to where I actually stored the music and selected the track or tracks I wanted to add. Or if I right clicked in the timeline itself and used the same command and workflow, and then manually dragged the clip up to the library window.

Re: Capturing music from CD's in Pro X3
We saved it in the Windows music library, which is where VS also saved the music we ripped using VS. In addition, VS was saving the songs in the VS audio library, but we always opened the Windows music library and used that in VS as that was where most of our music was saved. And VS did not give us the option of importing into VS any songs in that library that had not been ripped and saved using VS, even though that library was open in VS. However, we were able to import the songs ripped using Real Player into the VS audio library by right clicking and going into the Windows library and retrieving them, which we had not tried to do before since we never used that library. Thank you for that tip. So that should take care of all the problems we have been having so far. Hopefully nothing else arises. Thanks to everyone for all the information.

Hi
Glad you have managed to import the clips into the library.
At the top left of the library are 4 icons, three allow the pages to be viewed or hidden, the first is a windows folder looking one, this is the "import media file" option and is used to import all types Video Photo and Audio.
Once the clips populate the library they can be dragged to the timeline, or right click and Insert.....
In addition you can right click the timeline and select Insert Audio, browse the hard drive---then the clip will be inserted directly to the timelines.
Real Player can be set to rip the audio to wav types rather than MP3, the options being set via preferences. top left "Real Player", and like Video Studio saves them to the windows default Music folder, again you can change if you wish.
Saying all that, it does not explain why Video Studio cuts the audio short by some 4 seconds

Re: Capturing music from CD's in Pro X3
Thanks for all the info, Trevor. Video Studio is so much more complex than our old Showbiz program that we have been pretty overwhelmed with how everything works. The Corel user manual tells where to do different things but doesn't go into any detail as to exactly how to accomplish these tasks. So we really appreciate all of you who have shared your knowledge. Some of less technically literate users need step-by-step instructions. Real Player worked great for us. We did figure out how to change from MP3 to *wav, and you're right, there doesn't seem to be any explanation for Video Studio's chopping off of songs. We've been dealing with that for two years by just fading out the music when it happened, which was less than desirable in most cases. Thankfully we won't have to deal with that anymore.
Thanks to you too, Ken, for all your help. It's nice to know we have a good source for problem solving when we run into a brick wall learning all we need to know. Signing off for now....

Hi Marti
Two years of fades, next time don’t leave it to long in asking, we are a friendly bunch and there always someone to help.
Good luck with the video editing.
