Video Studio Pro-5 or 6?
I’m sure this question has been asked somewhere but
I can’t find it so senior members please forgive.
There must be some difference between Video Studio
Pro 5 and 6. Can someone share what they are? Currently
I am just about in the middle of my trial with Pro 5 but there’s
no sense in “buying a late model” if the new ones are already
on the lot, if you know what I mean.
There are many things that I like about Pro 5, the fact that it
is so comfortable and easy to use not withstanding. Any advice would be
welcomed.

The Track Motion and Customizable Motion make 6 a must. Before, I used Vegas 11 with pan/zoom to make motion effects. Now, I do not

Thanks Pepegota,
They seem to make a lot about that very point.
It is something to consider for sure.
Thanks again,

Re: Video Studio Pro-5 or 6?
Hello All,
I am currently using X5. The key choice for me to upgrade is the following; I burn BD-R discs and finalize my projects as MPEG2 to take advantage of the 35000 k/bps. All along I have been wanting to use the newer compression standard of H.264, but if I do select it I am limited to 20000 kbps which will result in artifacts. (My Canon captures at the max setting of 24 Mbps) I know we have discussed this before that the new standard for H264 is over 27000 kbps.
So my question is does X6 allow one to create at the higher compression rate for H264 for BD-R? If not then I will stick to X5 till they do.
Thanks in advance!
Peter

Re: Video Studio Pro-5 or 6?
This is a somewhat contentious point. X6 can accept and edit video done in AVCHD 2.0 specifications using the H.264 codec. It can even output H.264 video with a bitrate going up to the max of 28 Mbps. But to do so, you have to use Share > Create Video File > Same As First Clip (making sure you have an AVCHD 2.0 file at the start of the project) or else make a Custom template using the Add function and point to a clip with the properties you want to emulate.
The contention I mentioned is twofold. First, one of our experienced members believes that such video produced by VS is not correctly termed "AVCHD" which is still limited in X6 to 18 Mbps (or 20 Mbps for AVCREC). And there is not preset template for anything above that. That indeed is the other point of contention: whether there should be such a preset template if there are already the workarounds I mentioned in my first paragraph above. Corel obviously did not think so.
The other point worth mentioning, since you already work with X5, is that it too can produce h.264 video if you use Same As First Clip or else make a Custom template using the Add function and point to a clip with the properties you want to emulate.

Re: Video Studio Pro-5 or 6?
Hi Ken,
I selected "Same as First Clip" in my X5 for my project and see the following settings:
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 22700 kbps)
Does this mean I will not see any artifacts? The camera was set to capture at 24 Mbps and BD-R is 25 I believe.
Also, X5 like X3 has the same old menus when you go to create the BD disc, the school bus, scrap book, chess board, movie marque etc... Does X6 provide more choices? I'd actually like something fairly simple that has motion menus without all the graphics.

All questions about X6 could be resolved by downloading the trial and testing it completely free for 30 days.

Re: Video Studio Pro-5 or 6?
Fine...
But what about the video data rate?
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 22700 kbps)
burned to BD-R?
