Can't open .tif file extension pics sent from an iMac.

Post by rleichty »

My Corel ProX4 program will not open a pic with a .tif file extension. I received the pic from an iMac. I know the pic contains layers with names typed in to identify the individuals in the pic. How can I get Corel to open these pictures? I have Corel on a pc running windows 7 professional.

I thought you could open .tif files (i have done it in the past, although i cannot remember with which version), but it will open them flattened, so you are losing the layers when opening them in PSP.

TIFF support in PSP is very limited. If your TIFF files have a feature that PSP does not support it's not guaranteed to import. In fact in some cases TIFF files are mistaken by PSP for RAW files because of certain features which sends them through the RAW importer completely ruining the image.

If the Layers are important to you, get them saved into another format that supports layers if you can (PSD should work). Otherwise, export the TIFF as one without layers to import into PSP.
