Confused...advice needed

Post by jerseybri »

So I've had some issue with the OOS problem on VS9. I am using stock mpeg files from archive.org that have worked successfully in the past. I edit & trim with transitions, then create a videofile. I then open a new project and import the videofile and burn.

I've seen many recommendations and followed the sticky procedure. It seems that the problem has different causes and may be fixed by different things...of the multilpe OOS remedies, is there an order of things I should try for the OOS problem? Here's what I can gleen from the posts, in the order of things to try. If anyone can correct or add I would appreciate it:

1) Update DVD engine then repeat procedure- not applicable for VS9
2) Turn off smart render and recreate video file then burn again
3) Save Trimmed videos, recreate video file, then reburn DVD (smart render on or off?)

What about the options for convert compliant video/audio?

Any help would be much appreciated. Sorry if it is my naivate showing, but I am trying to follow best practices.

UVS 9 seems to have fixed the OOS issues that have plagued UVS 8, and there is no burning engine update for it yet (although one with enhanced dual-layer burning capabilities is imminent). If you updated your burning engine, you may well have introduced the problem that way, because the OOS problem wasn't in the original UVS 8.

If there is a OOS problem with the assets that you are adding to a UVS project, the problem will continue to exist if the files are smartrendered. Try playing the file(s) exhibiting the problem to see if they are already OOS before processing by UVS. If they do, you may be able to correct it by going through a full rendering (with SmartRender turned off).

the files look perfect outside of the DVD, and the rendered videofile also looks perfect. It is only when I burn to DVD that the problem appears. I completely reinstalled VS9 and the same problem occured. So my question is -

1) should I completely reinstall again, and if so, how do I ensure that no remnants remain?

2) I will try with smartrender turned off and report back. Is this a good step?

Thanks!

I edit & trim with transitions...
Yeah, 'sounds familiar... I don't have VS9, but I believe it was the transitions that caused me OOS problems with VS8. The edited MPEG played fine, and the corruption wasn't apparent until they were de-multiplexed & re-multiplexed to the DVD format. Then, the sync problems showed-up.

If you must edit MPEGs (which are not meant to be edited) consider getting a special-purpose MPEG editor. I've "upgraded" to Womble MPEG Video Wizard ($120), and I haven't had any problems since. This is not a DVD authoring program. I use Ulead DVD Workshop for that. You can use Video Studio for DVD authoring, it's the editing that's corrupting the MPEGs.
EDIT --------------------------------------------------------------------
The Womble program has a feature to fix MPEGs. I haven't tried that feature... I haven't needed it since I'm using it to edit. :)

These programs are supposed to repair MPEGs too. (Again, I haven't tried them):
PvaStrumento (Free)
VideoReDo ($50)

You need to repair the edited (cut/spliced/transitioned) MPEG file before the sync problem is introduced.

You could try the remedies discussed in THIS thread. Since your source files appear fine and turning off SmartRendering will result in unnecessary lengthy rendering, I would try using the procedure using ImgTool Classic as outlined in my first post of that thread.

*UPDATE*

I re-rendered with SmartRender turned off and voila - no more OOS problem.

Hi
jerseybri

Using VS 8 with the update patch and Smart Render corrupts mpeg files.
Unfortunately the file will play as ok on your pc using the various players you have.

Only after burning the file, after the multiplexing does the problem show.
You do not have to burn to see the OOS. Creating a TS folder will allow you to play the files on your pc, identifying the problem.

If you have a file that has been smart rendered in VS 8, then burned in VS 9 you may see OOS.
This does not mean that VS 9 is faulty , but using a faulty file from VS 8.

When I upgraded to VS 9 I was sure that the installation of VS 9 and the common / shared files that VS 9 used actually cured the OOS in VS 8.
Just a thought

Any how glad to hear that you have managed to work round the oos problem.

All the Best
