VSPX6 Trial

Post by rwernyei »

Decided to give the trial a whirl and have encountered two problems. Installation went well and the Corel Guide popped up and I could view all the free templates, titles in the Do More tab. After closing the program I get the 30 day reminder. Now upon opening the program, the Corel Guide splash screen appears but when I click on the Do More link it just gives me an hour glass/busy icon and never opens to the bonus content. In addition, I threw a 6 minute DV Type 1 AVI file on the timeline for a test and hit Create Disc and got a DMP error. Everything seems to work OK other than these two issues. I successfully created 3D files, used the Painting Creator, played around with the new Subtitle recognition feature, etc. Just wondering why I am having these issues.

After typing this post, I re-opened VSPX6 and the Do More tab responded. It is now showing only three thumbnails: Video Tutorials, Introductory Webinar & One-on-One Training. None of the free templates, titles or all content shows. Maybe they will appear upon another opening of the program later. Still having the DMP error at the Share>Create Disc step when I choose any of the options for DVD, etc. If I can't resolve this issue, it looks like I would have to resort to using DVDMFP7 to author discs.

Hi

The Do-More options are only fully available after purchasing the program.
At least that’s how it used to be…..

DV-Avi video, probably one of the easiest to edit so don’t understand why it fails when doing Share Create Disc.

Have you applied any filters/edits to your video clips.?
If you started a new project then Share Create Disc, does the program fail.

To use DVD MF you would have to convert the project to a DVD Mpeg2 video file.
I would recommend that you do this when using Video Studio.

From your project, Share Create Video File—choose the custom option and set to use “mpeg files”
Choose the properties but from the General tab use Lower Field, that matches DV-Avi fiel order. All other settings as default, however you could use Digital Dolby audio.

Does the render complete without problems.

Now start a new project, Share create disc add video, adding your new Mpeg2
The rest is similar to DVD MF.

Trevor, Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, the program still gives me the dump file error message even when I create a new project and go to Share>Create Disc. Share>Create File in VSPX6 does not produce any errors. This is very odd. Also, checked the Knowledge Base and I have no Browser Plugins or Extensions running via Google Chrome.

Trevor,

This testing machine is a Windows XP desktop that barely meets minimum specs, wonder if that is the problem. I was thinking of installing the VSPX6 trial on my Windows 7 laptop to see if it exhibits the same DMP issue . Because the trial has already been registered to my email address, do I need to provide a different email address to install the trial on another machine? Thanks.

You might if you were downloading the trial version again on your Win 7 machine. But wouldn't it just be as easy to simply copy the setup file you already downloaded on your XP machine and use that on the Win 7 one? That wouldn't require a new email...

I was going to copy the exe to a USB flash drive and then paste the exe to the laptop and install. Reason I asked about email is that after installation it asks to register the product. After registering, the Continue tab appears on the lower right and when clicked it opens the program for the first time.

You get that same page when reinstalling a full version of the program, either on the same or a different computer. And each time I just give the same info with the same email address, and get an email acknowledging registration! Can't say that this will happen with the trial version, though it is worth a try...

Hi

I was not aware that the trial versions needed registering. Registering the purchased version give access to the Do-More options, I do not think that is the case for the trial.
However Corel did mess up with X6 and the Corel guides, I think that is sorted now.

Your DMP file error.

Are you saying that after starting a new project, nothing in the timeline, Share Create Disc - DVD causes the error message.

If NO then the burner module will open. Or do you not get that far???

Top left icon is Insert Media-Add Video Files, choose the file you created /rendered earlier, the file is a compliant Mpeg2 DVD and is suitable for burning a disc without further conversion/rendering.

Trevor,

I have never seen the burner module. I can put a compliant MPEG-2 file on the timeline or nothing and go to Share>Create Disc and when I click on DVD or any of the other options in the list, I get the dump file error. All the other options with the Share step work. The Do More just shows those 3 thumbnails I mentioned before, I do not get the templates, titles or all like I did on the first initial opening of the trial.

Hi

I wouldn’t worry to much about the Corel Guide and Do More options, there is sufficient templates installed with the trial without downloading the templates from the Do More.

The problem of selecting the Share-Create Disc options is the issue.
However you do mention that the XP pc is not upto spec’ and it could simply be just that.

You could try manually updating Direct X
1 / Download file
2 / Run to extract files to a new folder
3 / Run the file DXSETUP.exe

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=8109

Just a note on Direct X – it has been known to correct strange issues with Video Studio that the auto updates do not, no idea why.
Updating Direct X does not change the version number

Otherwise download and re-install the program, maybe a corrupt installation file??

We assumed you installed and ran the program with admin rights?

Trevor,

I can confirm that installing the trial on my Windows 7 laptop works. The Share>Create Disc function works allowing me to use burn module, menu creation features, etc. Must have been the low specs on the XP desktop. Funny, again the same behavior with the Do More tab happened. Upon opening for the first time the Do More option opened revealing all the templates, titles and all content. Upon closing the program and re-opening it has the 3 same thumbnails and never gives the bonus content. You mentioned registering the program opens the bonus content for Do More. I am curious it seems that registering gives one 90 days for free Corel support and future updates and patches. Is the any way one can get to the bonus content without using the Do More option like a Corel ftp or separate page of Free Stuff at their website? I saw a couple samples at first glance that do not come packaged with the program that I would be interested in.

Follow up. I have found a workaround for my Do More issue. Apparently, the messaging service within VSP and the Corel Guide's Do More had a broken path and could not communicate with each other. It was odd because both the Learn and Check for updates worked. What I did is navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Corel\Messages\XXXXXXXXX_XXXXXX\EN and delete the MessageCache folder. I have confirmed several times and after PC shutdown I am able to access the Do More option and it displays the Templates/Titles/All content perfectly. Regarding the Share>Create Disc dump file problem, I have narrowed that to poor specs with the XP desktop. My Windows 7 laptop runs the VSPX6 trial without any issues. Hope this helps.

Hi

The Do – More options showing some but not all is usually like this after first accessing the Corel Guide, after a few launches it usually shows all, but that’s for the purchased versions. So if you do buy you may see similar Do-More tab contents.

At one time after installing X6 I saw the old downloads page for X5 containing 76 templates, then a few days later it was populated to the full having 115 ish items, (not counted for a while) I know Corel have been working on the Guide since the release of X6, I assume they have got it right now. (some downloads for X6 installed on X5)

By the way, adjacent to the Messages folder is a Download folder, all have strange names that mean little, but contain all your downloads.
