DVD Burn problem

Post by d1954costa »

While burning a project to a DVD (videostudio X5) received an popup stating; "program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning. Please contact Corel Tech support & send sump file for analysis". I contacted Corel customer support and gave them the detailed error information. ( it appears that direct contact with Tech support requires payment). Several customer support agents then gave me a number of links to solve the problem. None worked I got the same error. The last agent gave me a ticket # in which someone from tech support will contact me via e-mail. Don't know how long that will take, meanwhile I am stuck. Has anyone experienced the same issue and has a solution? I am tempted to uninstall X5 and reinstall wondering if that would correct the problem. Sorry for the long post. By the way I burned a significant number of DVDs with no problem a few days ago.
Can anyone assist?

I have moved your post to the Video Studio forum, since your problem relates to that program and you are more likely to get responses here.

As a starter, can you tell us the format of the video in your project: right click a clip in either the timeline or library window and post all the Properties here please, or post a screen grab. Do the same if there is more than one format involved.

Second, we usually recommend for people in a similar situation to first convert the project to a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 (Share > Create Video File > DVD) and then use that new video in the burning module to do the actual burn. If creating the mpeg-2 causes a similar problem, then it will most likely have something to do with one or more of the clips in the project or their format.

Hi

The properties you show seem to be bog standard Mpeg2 NTSC.

As Kens second comments---From the edit timelines please convert your project to a Mpeg2 file.
Share Create Video File—Same as first Video Clip should use the properties of your video file.
From the Create Video File window --- View the properties in the lower panel to check they are correct, that is as your video files properties.
Save and the new file will be created.

If this fails –view the content of the timeline at that position, give us some details?

If it creates successfully, play the file to view the quality, is it sutiable.

To burn the disc
Start a new project—nothing in the timelines—Share Create Disc

Add Video file, icon top left—use the file created above.
