For now, I'm not going to upgrade because I just don't see these new features as being worth paying $80. I really think it's an unfair price tag to stick on those people that just bought VS5 Ultimate. I'm someone that always pays for software and doesn't pirate, but I do think that making your loyal, honest customers pay so much to upgrade is sort of a smack in the face

First off let me say I love VS Pro software and been noticing it for years. Well a couple months ago, I just purchased VS5 Ultimate thinking it was the latest and greatest. Now I see that there is a new version available with more bells and whistles, and I'm just like 'damn it!!' The price tag has also risen quite a bit -- to where now even with the discount, it's not any cheaper then what I paid for the previous version. I also see that there is no extra discount for people that had purchased VS 5 Ultimate then those that just bought the regular VS4.

Hi danny - can I first clarify that as it says at the top this is a User to User forum - with only one or two exceptions nobody posting on here (including admins and moderators) work for Corel - or receive any payment for being here - we are all users - just like you - who have paid for the software we use.
I have no particular allegiance to Corel and no particular reason to fly their flag but I do think you are being a little harsh in picking them out, for instance I see you have Windows 7 - but there is a new version available with more bells and whistles - are you expecting Microsoft to give you a free upgrade to Window 8 - you could have a long wait.
i do not know if you have Microsoft Office - but when a new version is released are you expecting a free copy of the new version.
In fact looking through all the software I have on my PC I do not see any of the big software companies gives me a free upgrade between versions - free updates and patches , yes, but so does Corel - so I can't really see that they are any different.
And no software company that I know of announces new versions in advance - that would kill the current version - but like many other companies Corel will give special dispensation if you bought the previous version just weeks before the new version is released - so if you feel you fall into that category then contact Corel customer support and plead your case.
Corel has a lot of faults I do not deny that - but I do not think they are any different to most other software companies when it comes to their new version policy.

Brian, I don't know where you got that he was asking or expecting the newer version "for free?"
Here's what he said, and I don't see the word 'free' in that anywhere:

I also complained that the so-called discount price they offer is equivalent to the full price of what I paid for version X5, and because I thought it was unreasonable, I didn't and probably won't upgrade to X6. I think he and I agree that Corel is way off base. The price tag has also risen quite a bit -- to where now even with the discount, it's not any cheaper then what I paid for the previous version. Re: Not a happy camper
Keep in mind that the price you paid for the full version of X5 was probably a discounted price as the product moved deeper into it's development cycle.
Corel regularly gives steep discounts after it's products have been out a while. When the next version comes out the upgrade price is equivalent to the old discount price. If you have an issue with that, simply wait until about half way through the development cycle before upgrading, when discounted prices are offered.
If you want the newest stuff on release you have to pay full price, otherwise simply be patient and wait for them to offer discounts (which will come sooner or later).
X6 is a minor incremental improvement over X5, for most applications both versions will be equally as good in doing what you want them to do.
So just bide your time.

We understand how you feel, but basically it's your own fault. Haven't you ever heard that famous Latin phrase that translates to "buyer beware?"
