I've searched the forums for this but was not able to find a solution that worked for me. My exported videos don't seem to be full screen. My source data are jpg pictures in 4272x2848 resolution (Aspect Ratio of 3:2) turned into time lapse videos. I have tried exporting in MPEG-4 and WMV Screencapture 1920x1080 (1.777:1) and the resulting videos have black bars on the sides because of the different aspect ratio. I would ideally like to have an exported video file that is the same aspect ratio as the source pictures, something like a 1620x1080 (3:2). Can I pick a custom resolution for exporting? Is there a way I can crop the black bars out afterwards? Can I apply a cropping filter to the current project before exporting?
The "Enable Widescreen" setting had no effect on the videos, they came out identical.

Hi
There are a few options available to you.
First change the aspect ration of the camera to take 4:3 or 16:9 images, then the aspect ratio will be same as the video size and you wont have a problem
Otherwise………
You can re-size the images within the timelines to fit to screen, this will stretch the images, you will lose some detail at the top and bottom.
So you can identify the preview screen frame size, change the background colour from black to any other (Preferences F6)
How -- Double click the first image to open the Options Panel.
Choose the Attributes tab-then tick Distort Clip.
The preview screen will show the re-size handles in yellow
Right click the screen and choose Fit to Screen, the image will stretch to fill the screen, however will be out of proportion.
Right click the screen and select Keep Aspect Ratio.
The image will stretch vertically, you will loose some detail top and bottom.
That sets the first image.
Right click the clip in the timeline and select Copy Attributes.
Shift+ Click the last image -- will select all
Right Click and Paste Attributes.
All images now display as 16:9.
Render the project to your chosen output format.
If you wish you can use 4:3 aspect ratio, this is a nearer option to your image size.
Change the project Properties to use 4:3, however you will only use Fit to Screen, the image will be stretched vertically.

Re: Exported video not full screen
Thank you for the options. I have a Canon T3 so i don't have an option to resize the images on the camera.
I don't want to stretch the images because they look funny that way and I don't really want to chop off a piece of the image.
I think I've managed to figure something out based on another post. If i make a the project screen a custom size like 1620x1080 (3:2 aspect like the pictures) and then export using the custom resolution, then the resulting video has no black bars when the player is minimzed. The only problem is that now my video files are huge because i don't know how to properly configure the custom codecs.
Do any of the preset outputs have a 3:2 aspect ratio?

Re: Exported video not full screen
Hi
How are you intending to play the video, are you intending to burn a disc, if so the frame size has to be 4:3 or 16:9
Using Make Movie Templates Manager……..
If you were to create a template as 1440 x 960 that would be 3 x 2.
There are some templates that allow for User Defined frame sizes.
Some options
AVI Div X
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 1440 x 960, 30 fps
Frame-based
DivX 5.0.5 Codec
PCM, 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
QuickTime Movie Files
24 bits, 1440 x 960, 30 fps
Frame-based
MPEG 4 Visual
50% Quality, 24 Key Frame Rate
None, 8.000 KHz, 8 bits, Stereo
I guess it’s a matter of trial and error to see which give the best quality.
Some templates will take longer to render and that may be a factor in your decision.
I think Div X was the faster from the two options above?
Oh by the way what version of Video Studio are you using
