Video goes by TOO FAST!!!

Post by JimDodds »

Just wanted to say first that this is a great forum, and advice here
has helped me out of some really tight spots,
so thank you in advance.

Just finally got back to working on my big video and showed a rough cut.
Two main comments.
That's really nice!! But it all goes by too fast!

So how do you slow down an entire video production?
I can change the duration of each piece, but there are hundreds!

I know to lock everything but is there any way to make an entire 1 hour video
stretch out to 1.25 times that? Maybe 1.5 times?

Thanking all of you again :-)

You did not even tell us what program you are using or even anything about your project.

Have you done a search of the Help system? Do a search for "working with clips?. It will describe how you can slow down or speed up clips.
Of course you realize that if you slow down (or speed up) the video, your sound will be distorted

Not easy to do Jim if you have a mix of stills and videos in the top track - or if you have stills and/or videos in any of the overlay tracks - I cannot get the option to change duration or speed to become available if I have those conditions.

If I only have stills in the top line then I can select the first - then hold down shift while I select the last so that they all become selected - then "Tools >> Edit photo/color duration" becomes available.

The only option I have for you is to put your complete project in the timeline then go "Share >> Create Video File >> Your option" and make your video.

now start a new project with nothing in the timeline - insert your new video file and select it - open the "Options panel" - blue button above right hand end of timeline" and there you will see the option for speed/timelapse (not Variable speed) - click on that and select a new speed. You will then have to go via "Share >> Create Video File" again to make your final slowed down video.

Actually Brian that might work in a way. One thing I have found out is that by splitting audio from video
and then using the audio editor you can slow down the video by and the audio separately 10% or so
without messing up the pitch. Try it. Surprising, but it works.

The audio is a digital signal so you will not affect the pitch by speeding up or slowing down, you will affect the speed only. If you hold down the SHIFT key and grab the end of the audio track you can lengthen or reduce the length on the timeline without affecting the contents. Works for video as well as audio.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.
