Hi all...new to the forum and hope to learn a lot here.
I have an immediate question I didn't see an answer to:
I've shot HD video on a Sony SR11 in .m2ts format
TS(AVC) and 1920x1080 resolution.
I'm looking to edit these short videos in a project with a format of 2.35:1 or 1920x800 as a finished project.
I'm using video studio pro4x right now but willing to upgrade if I need to to get this resolution.
Checked my manual and searched here to no avail...Hoping it is possible and grateful for any assistance! Thanks.
Carlos

Re: Converting 1920x1080 to 1920x 800
Why ?
In X5 and X6 you can set up a 1920x800 resolution if you select Custom-microsoft avi and then set the resolution. You will of course lose some picture quality.

Re: Converting 1920x1080 to 1920x 800
The custom render has an option for user-defined frame size, but mine is greyed out - I remember it working a long time ago in VS11.5, but don't remember the circumstance, and I can't get VS11.5 to do it now -. X5 doesn't seem to be able to do odd-ball frame sizes.
I don't know if this will help, but there is a free media player called Pot Player - silly name, not a silly program - that has so many adjustments it's mind-boggling. It can force any video into different aspect ratios, it has 2.35:1, and you can even invent an aspect ratio because it has user-defined. Other adjustments can sharpen the video when it plays, you can change colours, you can even record anything it can play - which is nearly everything - into a different format - it enhances the video and makes it look better than the original even with it's limited recording formats -. The controls aren't visible so you right-click the screen.

Re: Converting 1920x1080 to 1920x 800
The why is because this will be shown in some movie theaters with 2.35:1 screens ...so I need to eliminate the black bars that would be present if I didn't take it down to 1920x800.canuck wrote:Why ?

In what part of the process would I select custom microsoft avi...and where would I click to find it? Obviously...new to all this!
Thanks.

Re: Converting 1920x1080 to 1920x 800
Hi
When you change the frame size from 1920 x 1080 to 1920 x 800 are you intending to distort the frame or are you using a crop effect to remove some of the frame, keeping the rest in proportion?
The 1920 x 1080 is widescreen 16:9
Whilst 1920 x 800 would stretch the frame to a wider/panoramic look.
You can set the project properties to use 1920 x 800 (User Defined) provided you use AVI Microsoft DV compression, Div X, some others may work.
Your 1920 x 1080 will sit inside the frame with borders left and right, you could stretch the video to fit, but is this your intension.
To identify the frame area change the background colour via F6 Preferences.
Then you need to decide on an output format.
Post Edited
To fill the screen from the Attributes tab, choose Distort
Right click preview screen and “fit to Screen”
Right Click and “Keep Aspect Ratio”.
Use “make movie templates manager” to create your template
Sample
QuickTime Movie Files
24 bits, 1920 x 800, 30 fps
Frame-based
MPEG 4 Visual
100% Quality, 15 Key Frame Rate
None, 8.000 KHz, 8 bits, Stereo
The template may not be suitable, you may have to choose another format.
