Problems with importing pictures in X4
I have tried to add JPG images off my laptop to Video studio and every time I attempt to import an image into it, it comes up with a message the runs along the lines of ''unable to open file, file format mismatch, [16803:1:3]''. I took the pictures with my Canon G9, but I also took video with my G9 and strangely enough the video will import and play. I do really like the Corel software and I am disappointed that this problem has occurred. I am new to this site and please correct me if I have posted this in the wrong place. Thanks in advance, Tom.

Hello Tom - yes you are in the right place.
You certainly should be able to import jpg's into your timeline.
I can't immediately think of any reason why you can't - which method are you using.
do you import to a library pane first and then drag and drop to the timeline - in which case can you get as far as the library.
Or are you right clicking on the timeline and choosing "Insert Photo" and then browsing to the photo's.
I am sure a few other users will be along to try and help you shortly

I can't even import my images to the library first, let alone the timeline. It just comes up with the error I stated earlier when I try to import them to the library.

Re: Problems with importing pictures in X4
Is it just the photos from that camera? If you have jpegs from other sources, can you insert those?
I seem to recall another thread some time ago where a particular camera inserted a non-standard tag with all its jpegs. IIRC, the solution was to save the jpeg as another jpeg in any photo processing program (e.g. PSP, Photoshop etc). Apparently this stripped out the non-standard tag. Anyway, it's worth trying.

Re: Problems with importing pictures in X4
I would try it however it is a stop motion video with hundreds of photos and I don't want to spend forever changing them. I tried this morning attempting to import photos straight into the timeline but it refused that, and also tried importing them by clicking file top left, then insert media file to timeline/library and selecting my files. Again it would not do it, however this time the error message was a bit more detailed and said the reason why I could not import the photos was because I did not have enough memory on my computer, the file was copyright protected or it was unknown file format. Any help on ways to solve this or other things that might be causing this? And I will also try importing JPG's from a different source in a minute to see if that is the problem. I also have 156.19 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space so I can't see that being a problem.

Re: Problems with importing pictures in X4
Are you are using the supplied software CameraWindows to download your jpeg files? This may have the option to change the files into a more suitable format.
I always use the supplied software to download bot video and stills from my camera. Why? Because it sorts out the required files from the extra "housekeeping" files on my SD card. Some people by-pass this step and download direct (I used to do this) but I found that the supplied software is a much easier route.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

the amount of free space on your hard drive has absolutely nothing to do with memory - two different things, the hard drive is storage space - I notice you only have 2GB RAM (memory) and are running windows 7 - that could be part of the problem - on top of that how much Virtual memory do you have set and how much is being used.

Re: Problems with importing pictures in X4
I have same problem with Video Studio X6. Same error. Even when I do a Edit>Take Snapshot. The jpgs load fine in Corel X5. I know I have enough memory on my PC, and even the images that came in the sample directroy wil not load. Nothing is copyrighted and all the jpgs load fine in other video and image editors.

Re: Problems with importing pictures in X4
Is there a solution for this error? I've been using VS X6 for a while, but recently had to reinstall Win7 and VS X6. Suddenly, I'm no longer able to import .psd, .png, .jpg, .bmp, anything! I had to create a video from the image in order to import it. I have re-installed X6 again (and SP1) but no image will import. How can this be fixed?

Re: Problems with importing pictures in X4
Hi Tom
and welcome to the forums.
I have to admit that this problem is rearing its head far to often unfortunately I do not have a solution.
But can I ask, can you insert the sample image from the library to the timeline, or are you having problems using those as well?
Do you have any other problems in running the program?
I suffered using my Laptop which turned out to be a Graphics Driver issue.
Tom having re-installed the operating system I suppose your graphics driver is OK.
My Laptop was brand new yet required a driver update?
There are no Corel employees that visit the forums, well not that often, we are users the same as you.
Corel do have a Facebook account and apparently do reply to users questions, maybe a visit there may help?

Re: Problems with importing pictures in X4
As I said much earlier in this thread:
Given the increasing frequency in which we are seeing these problems with images, I am starting to wonder if it is the effect of some recent Windows update causing conflicts. However why it is not occurring for everyone is another mystery. My computer is fully up to date Windows-wise, but I am not having this problem. Another possibility is a conflict with a recently installed program. I recently installed GoPro's Movie Studio 2.0 and started having problems inserting things into Corel Movie Factory Pro 7.0. Some users of Movie Studio reported similar conflicts in other editing programs, and the solution seemed to be to remove certain files associated with the Go Pro program. This worked for me. But I am wondering if you have also installed some other editing program since installing VS which might be causing a problem/conflict?
As for Facebook, you can find the Corel page at http://facebook.com/corelvideostudio
Could you try that and see what happens?I seem to recall another thread some time ago where a particular camera inserted a non-standard tag with all its jpegs. Re: Problems with importing pictures in X4
Wow...that was strange. No, I wasn't able to import the included pics, either. But then, I clicked on the "Instant Project" button, and the tracks filled with various items. I did an UNDO, and suddenly ... it seemed everything began to work. Clipart loaded, and all of my own images that I tried loaded directly into the timeline. Along the way, I did see some "Relink" messages, but I cancelled them. Reloaded the program and started a new project, and had no problems importing PSD, PNG, JPG, etc directly to the timeline. Anyway, apparently the problem is solved.
