How to transfer tubes in PSP 8

Post by joeytomtom »

I'm new to PSP and trying to fathom out tube transfers.
In my tube folder there are quite a few tubes, but mainly on sheets of say 12 or more individual tubes.
How can I take one of those tubes from the sheet of say 12, because at present if I try to bring a tube into PSP, the whole sheet comes in.
Any help would oblige.

You have not stated the purpose of getting one of the tube images . Do you want to make it a separate tube so when you use it you only get that image. Or do you want to use that image on other documents/images.

To get a single image out of a spread of 12 images I would use the crop tool.
1. Drag the image onto the work space (you should see each of the separate images on a transparent background. )
2. Use the crop tool (3rd one down on left) to draw a crop rectangle around the image you want.
3. Double click inside the crop rectangle to crop that image or click the Tick upbeside the Presets box to complete your crop.
(In later versions X2 you have other options to crop as new image which allows you to quickly crop out a number of images.)
4. You now have that image as a separate image on a transparent background.

You can now do File> Export> Picture Tube to use it as a separate one image picture tube.
You could also do File > Save As to save it as a png file (if you wanted to keep transparency) or as a jpg if you just wanted it as a picture.

Many thanks hartpaul. That has resolved that problem for me. However, how would I get tubes into my tube folder, that are shown with 50% white and 50% black backgrounds.?
Your further advice would be most welcome.

Can you post an example? Do you mean 50% white and 50% blask as in a gradient, or solid black and solid white surrounding a coloured object .
If there is a distinct difference between the object you want to extract and both the white and the black then you could use the magic wand set at RGB match mode and Add mode. Then select the white and then the black and with all the background selected hit the delete key and you should have the object on a transparent background.(Presuming the image has been promoted from a background layer to a raster layer.
Then you crop the image to get as close to the object as you can and then File > Export as Picture Tube.

hartpaul, I have now been able to resolve this problem , and this is how I did it, which I don't think is the conventional way, but nevertheless it works for me.
Since I started this thread, I have downloaded Winzip onto my PC. Now when I left click on the tube, it opens up a Winzip menu asking if I want to unzip or save the file. Whichever way I choose, the file is opened in Winzip's software. When I then click to open the file it opens in PSP 8, but when I then try to export it as a tube, I get the following message. "To save the image as a Picture Tube, the image must be 24 bit and have only one raster layer with a transparency." I then have to go to my Layers Pallette and delete the layer that has the tube makers name on it. Then I am able to export it as a tube.
Many thanks for your help and advice.
