PaintShopPro X4: Replace color to transparency?
I'm curious if there is any way to simply remove a color by replacing it with a transparency? More specifically, the background of my image is solid black but the object itself is a little too intricate to cut out via the selection tool. Let me know if there is anyway to do this and thanks!

Well, there are potentially two very easy ways to handle this.
First, no you can't replace a color with transparency. PSP will just mix the transparent area with the current area. But you can select or erase.
If the object you're trying to separate from the background is too complex, then don't select the object. Select the background. Because this background is all black it should be easy to select and erase.
One of the easiest ways to remove one giant color is to use the Magic Wand tool to "auto-select" that color throughout the image. Turn on "contiguous" if you want to make sure no black from the inside of the object is selected. Keep the tolerance low, and match either color or RGB.
Once selected you can create a mask from the selection or delete the selection entirely.
The second method is to use the Background Eraser tool. Just make sure the center of the brush touches the black part and it should erase around your object pretty easily. Especially with a bigger brush. Once you've erased around the object switch to the regular eraser tool and erase the rest of the black background.
