Cannot view previous videos

Post by bendgee »

I am having a problem viewing some previous videos that I made (I have had two different photo cameras since then and had used some of their software) could that be a problem?
I get a message that the computer or disc player cannot find the file to open it.
I have read articles about not being able to open VOB,BUP,IFO FILES but I am at loss on what or how to properly correct this concern.
I am running windows7.0 and have corel video x5 software .
Can anyone help me ?? Bendgee

The files you list are files found on a DVD - they should be inside a folder labelled "Video_TS"

These files are used inside that folder on a standard DVD - if you do have a Video_TS folder then use the VideoStudio option to "Insert Digital Media" to browse to that folder and VS will import them into the timeline as editable mpegs.

You can often get the vob files to play by simply changing the vob extension to mpg

and the .BUP files are back up files, and the .IFO are information files, neither of which you will open :)

Thanks for your reply on inserting titles. You solved my problem (many thanks)
My other concern was (cannot view previous recorded videos). You had stated that I should check my (VIDEO_TS files)
I checked and found two sites.
the first folder has 0 files 0 bytes and 0 folders when I checked Properties.
I checked second site properties it has size 233mb
size on disc 233mb
and 6 files all are marked READ ONLY (only applies to files in folder)
ALL THESE FILE SITES are highlighted in YELLOW what does that mean.
You stated to use Video Studio options to INSERT DIGITAL MEDIA to browse folder not sure what you mean.
QUESTION : AM I posting this in the right place?

yes you are in the right place.

Are these files and folders on your hard drive - or are they on a DVD

I cannot think why they are highlighted in yellow - someone else may know.

If you right click on the timeline in VideoStudio a pop-up will appear - choose "Import Digital Media" and a special window will open and you can find the Video_TS folder and providing you put ticks in the correct boxes you will be able to import the video into the timeline for editing

I read your last post but cannot get the result that you say when I right click on the time line (nothing appears! )
How- every I have started to get some of what I want.
I want to download previous slideshows that I made on DVD and then capture video segments or even the snapshot of a certain picture.
I have studied the written tutorial "import and capture videos in Corel Video Pro ". I have now captured the videos that I made on DVD'S and can run them but when I try to do a screen capture I have a problem.
it states that I would be able to select individual snap shots, this is not happening.
Could you help me with this ? I have Video Studio 5x which has screen capture.
thanks for your help to date Bendgee

Screen Capture and Snapshots are two different operations.

If you only want a snapshot follow the following procedure ( from the VS X5 Help system)

Taking snapshots in the Edit Step

You can take a photo snapshot in the Edit Step by selecting a specific frame on the Timeline and saving it as an image file.

To capture photos
1 Click Settings > Preferences > Capture.
Choose Bitmap or JPEG as the Snapshot format.
If you select JPEG, set the Snapshot quality.
2 Click OK.
3 Select a video clip in your project.
4 Drag the Scrubber to the frame you want to capture.
5 Click Edit > Take a Snapshot. The photo snapshot is automatically added to the Library and saved to your working folder.
Note
You can also take snapshots of the current position of the Scrubber by choosing Snapshot from Record/Capture Option.

Hi Bendgee

As you have imported the video to the timeline, can you tell us if it is 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, please right click any video clip and select properties, the attributes should indicate 16:9 or 4:3.
If they indicate 4:3 then your Project Properties should be changed to match. Go to Settings and deselect 16:9 widescreen editing.

Taking a snapshot—just to add
The image you get depends on the playback mode, Clip and Project playback are available, indicated by the words adjacent to the play button.
It also depends on the type of video used.
In most cases taking the shot in Project Playback would be good.
