I have been using Video Studio Pro x2 for several years to edit and burn DVDs from the edited material with no problems. But for the last several months the burning process stops at the end of the VOB (whatever that is) but the blank disc is altered so it is unusable. It says that the Corel softwart has encountered a problem and has to close. I send a message every time but nothing comes of it. Another recurring problem is that it keeps telling me that the program will take a long time to burn even though I have checked the box to not show this message again.
The only way I have found to get the software to perform properly is to remove and reinstall the soft ware. Normal operation lasts for about four discs and the problem reoccurs. I have cleaned the hard drive of unnecessary files, etc. All my security updates are current.
I used this software on my previous two computers with no problems at all despite a much smaller Hard Drive, slower motherboard and much less memory.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Wasting blank DVD's
The first thing to do until the problem is solved is to stop putting blank DVDs in your drive - instead un-tick the 'Create to Disc' option and choose instead to Create DVD folders - that will stop you wasting any more DVDs
You say "I send a message every time" to who ?? and what about ?.
then you say you do manage to create some discs - is this duplicates of one disc or different projects? - how do you do that if you cannot get past creating the VOB
if you want duplicates of one project then make the DVD folders - then shut down VideoStudio - and use windows to copy the DVD folders to as many discs as you want to make.

Could it be the dvd recorder is beginning to fail?

Re: Wasting blank DVD's
To BrianCee: I did not realize that I could create a DVD folder since the purpose of my efforts have been to create a DVD disc of the program material. But I will do this in the future. Does this mean that I would save my project piece by piece to the DVD folder and when all is in the folder, then burn that folder to a DVD disc?
When the program stops prematurely, a 3" x3" square appears in the center of the screen. It says that the program has to be stopped and would I like to send a report to (Corel or Microsoft?). There is a button for Send and for Don't Send. You can also read the contents of this report if you wish but I am not trained to understand computer language.
The DVD discs I create are individual projects, not copies of other projects. The sequence goes like this; I'll burn three or four discs successfully and then the problem occurs. It will get to the 98% point of VOB and then the DVD drive starts up. It is recording somthing on the disc but the program is stuck in VOB. This goes on for a minute or two and the message screen mentioned above comes up but the DVD is still burning something to the disc. Sometimes when I click on Send Report the program closes. Sometimes it takes CNTL-ALT-DEL to get it stopped. The program seem to work fine the next time but it will not go past the end of VOB. Then I have to remove and reinstall the Corel program. The operation is normal for about 4 discs and we start the cycle all over again. I might add that even though I select not to save my files when I finish and close the program, it does anyway. I have learned to go to My Computer>C Drive>search> video.> .mpg > search which shows the mpg files I just burned (or not burned) and manually delete these files. If I don't do this every time, the program locks up as described above.
As I said, I have used this program the same way for many years without a problem until a few months ago when all this started. The Video Studio Pro x2 has met all my needs when it is operating normally and I don't care to spend my money on a newer version unless it's necessary to get satisfaction.

Re: Wasting blank DVD's
Hi Jack
You complete the editing as you do for burning a disc.
From the last window you de-select Create Disc and choose Create DVD Folders (Video_TS Folder), or Create Disc Image. (ISO File)
This will run through the burn disc process but save the files to your hard drive rather than burning a disc.
You can play the files on your pc to check quality, they will play as though playing a disc.
If the process fails it would indicate a problem with your project, at least you have not wasted a disc.
Once you are happy with the quality you can use the files to burn a disc.

Re: Wasting blank DVD's
you cannot create DVD folders piecemeal - it all has to be done in one go - just like burning a DVD except you do not use a disc - it does not change your workflow in any way..
once you have created a Video_TS folder you can check it out in a software DVD player (like WinDVD) where it will function exactly like a burnt DVD then you simply copy it to a blank DVD - you can use the same folder to burn multiple copies of a project without even opening VideoStudio.
If you look at any of the DVD.s you have burnt in Windows Explorer you will see it is just folders - a Video_TS folder and sometimes - but not always a Audio_TS folder - the audio one will be empty and is not used but the Video one will have vob files, bup files and ifo files in it.
if you cannot see the option to create folders when you get to the final burn screen in the create disc module then click on the right arrow - see image below :-
