Hi
Well No Carol, I have been a little busy and for some reason missed your reply....apologies for that..
We do not work for Corel, we are just like you a Video Studio user and will help were we can, certainly I never give up………
So yes that is the sort of info we need, by edit I mean what you have applied to the timelines…..but when you render a bar shows the progress, at what point does it fail and give the error.
If for instance it fails at 70% then what is in the timeline at that point.
It does seem as though the problem is a corrupt clip of some type, but you will have to investigate, we cannot see your pc. Have you for instance added a VSP my mistake instead of a video file.?
As you are intending on burning a DVD then you should be creating a Mpeg2 file, Share Create Video File –DVD choosing your aspect ratio will do just that.
With that in mind can you right click your video files and choose Properties, create an image and attach to your post. I am guessing that these are not Mpeg2, hence the red line in your previous image.

Re: Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
You have told us that you are a newbie to video editing - so what I don't understand is why (in a previous post) are you in the mpeg optimiser - it is not something I would be expecting a newbie to do.
Neither can I see any where that you have done as both Trevor and Ken have said and that is try to create a video file by going via "Share >> Create Video File >> DVD >> DVD Video (16:9)"
notice that the instruction to you includes the phrase 'DVD' twice - not mpeg
have you at any stage since you raised this problem actually done that ?
do not use the Create Disc option - or even put a blank DVD in your PC drive
IF you can create a video file then we can progress to burn a DVD but we need to know whether you can do that first using that procedure - and if you can't then we need to know what videos you are using and what you have done to them in terms of adding transitions, or filters or anything else, like added photos so we can make suggestions as to where the problem may be.

Hi CarolAnnMcgovern
Given that you have not replied I can only assume you have not received a Post Notification.
I have taken the liberty of changing this option via your User Account Profile by setting “notify me upon replies by default”
If you do not wish this please free to modify the choice.
There is also a similar option at the bottom of your posts.
Testing the project, Other options.
1 / You could split the project into sections, rendering each to see where the problem lies, save the projects giving them new names, that way the original is always available to use again.
2 / The Preview Range could be set, allowing you to render just the selected duration.
I would probably go for the Preview Range as I am not changing the timelines content.

Re: Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
Hi! Thanks for all the responses
Ok, Before, when I was creating a file, I was putting it on a disk. That was successful, but it wouldn't play on a DVD player, but it would play terribly on a computer.
So today I created a file on my hard drive. DVD 16:9: 8% completed and I got the error "There is no common media type between these pins. 17128:1:4"

Hi
You have to be able to convert your project to a Mpeg2 file in order to burn a disc.
Share Create Video File DVD will do that.
At 8% your render fails with the error message, and I have no idea what that means.
What is in the timeline at 8%.
Please try to give the details of the timelines content…….
I mentioned in an earlier post regarding splitting the project into sections, creating two or more projects.
Or render sections using the Preview Range, some info here, scroll down to the second example. http://lata.me.uk/corel/bluebar/blue_bar.htm
Once you have set the range, Share Create Video File DVD-from the save window press “options” choose “Preview Range” and the selected range will be rendered.
Repeat the process using a different range
You must identify what clips are causing the problem.
Ok
As you have mentioned having earlier problems burning / playing the disc, can you tell us what video files you are using, where they came from and type of camera, in fact as much info as possible.

Re: Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
OK, first of all, THANK YOU to everyone who has tried to help me! I really appreciate it!
Here's the update:
I made a copy of my original movie to edit.
1. I went through all the video clips and found some .avi's and .mov's. By right clicking, I selected the option to 'locate on computer'.
2. I used Wondershare Video Converter to change them to .mpg's.
3. I carefully reviewed how I trimmed the original files, and where they were in the project.
4. I imported the new MPG files right next to the originals, trimmed them, then deleted the original file.
5. The file looked exactly the same.
So, I went to create a video file as instructed DVD: 16:9. About 33% into the project, I got a blue screen stating something like I had run out of disk space. It was about midnight - so I figured that was a good place to stop.
This morning, I went through the duplicated .avi & .mov files and deleted them. Some of them were pretty big files. Then I emptied my recycle bin.
I tried again to create the video file. It told me that something didn't link, because it was missing an .avi file. I looked all through the movie, there wasn't another .avi file to be found. So, I continued.
IT WORKED!!
Then the pressure was really on - I added it to be burned to the cd.
IT WORKED!!!
I've played it on my DVD player, and it looks great! The music, voices, the fading in and out - everything is so smooth!
YEAH!! - Thanks again. Making sure all the video clips were MPEG-2 was the key. I'm not sure how I was able to import the other video types, since it wasn't going to work that way, but it did.

Re: Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
Glad you finally got it working, CarolAnn.
I would suspect that one of your original files was corrupt since the program does accept avi, move, and dozens of other formats.
In future I would suggest that you use a similar workflow and "do not put all your eggs in one basket" but break up a big project into smaller projects and output to mpg along the way. It is much easier to debug small projects as you have discovered.
BTW, the message about the "missing avi file" propably meant that there was still a reference to an avi file (in your project) which you had probably deleted after converting to mpg.
