Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
Hi,
Let me just start by saying I'm a video NOVICE! I don't have any history with making/editing videos or burning things to disk. I purchased Corel VideoPro X5 last year, and I've been building a video since. I've gotten good at putting music, videos, and panning images together. I have a video that is 24 minutes long.
I went to burn it to DVD today.
The first error I got was 257:0:0 Convert Step got some problems.
First off, I thought - terrible English. But then, I went to this forum and found some info on how to resolve. It said to go back and create a video file first.
Then I got the next Error: 17128:1:4 There is no common media type between these pins.
I tried to Create a Sound File to burn to disk. This was successful, so I know I should be able to burn something to this disk.
I tried to create the video file, and save it to my hard drive. This was unsuccessful.
I'm at my wits end. I've spent MONTHS converting movies to AVI and scanning pictures, loading music, putting in transitions and panning the pictures. I really hope this wasn't a waste. Please help, and if you could make the directions as simple as possible, it would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!
Unfortunately, you've left out some important information which makes it difficult to suggest any specific answer... For instance, what format are we talking about for your original video? Where did it come from -- what brand and model camera? Please right click one of the clips either in the timeline or library window, and copy ALL its "Properties" here.
And you say you are trying to burn it to a DVD, yet elsewhere you say you have been converting to AVI. Why have you been doing that. Is the original video either analogue and you have converted to DV/AVI, or some other format? (There are also over 800 video formats which call themselves .avi, so again we need more precise information as to what flavour AVI you have been converting them to.
At any rate, by international standard, you have to have mpeg-2, and not AVI, to burn a DVD. So at the very least you should be converting your project -- regardless of its original format -- to DVD-compatible mpeg-2. Since it is only 24 minutes long, you do this by choosing Share > Create Video File > DVD.
But you say you got the second error message when trying to create a new file. Which output format did you choose after Share > Create Video File? Was all the video in the project of the same kind or did you mix up video with different format? Did you use any of the overlay tracks?

Re: Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
Thanks for your quick response!
I went back to the computer and closed somethings down, then I saw an error message stating "not enough room on disk to copy". On a 4.7GB disk, I needed 2.3GB more room. So I went and got a new disk, DVD-R DL, which has 8.5GB.
Given the new disk, I formatted it, then went in to Corel VideoStudio Pro, and was able to Create Video File, and Create Sound File. These are both successfully on the disk! The video file runs on the computer, but it's choppy. We tried running it on a DVD player, and it says it isn't set for playback or something like that. Is there a way to format the disk for playback?
So, I grabbed a different blank disk, and tried to Create Disk. When I selected 'Burn", pretty quickly I got the error "The disc is not empty, or not writable (532:0:0)."
Is there a simple solution to this?
The properties to my movies are:
"MPEG-2 Video, Upper Field First, 24 bits, 29.97 frames/sec"
"mbarella AVC encoder, 24 bits, 29.97 frames/sec"
"H.264, 24 bits, 30 frames/sec"

I have never had to format a DVD for use with VideoStudio - I just take them from the box - put them in the drive and burn my video - what are you formatting them with and to what standard - and why ? - maybe that formatting is creating problems.

Re: Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
While you are trying to burn a DVD, you appear to be using at least some high def video. So is it a standard def DVD you are trying to burn, or a hybrid or AVCHD disc (high def but using a DVD, and in effect burning a Blu-Ray disc on a DVD)?
If it's a standard DVD, then it would be better if you first converted your project to a DVD-compatible mpeg-2: Share > Create Video File > DVD. If the project is one hour or less, then that should produce an mpeg-2 which can be burnt to a single layer DVD.
I am wondering if you are talking about a rewritable disc... If it's not rewritable, then all other discs are writable only once and cannot be used again.

- This is the kind of video that my Aiptek HD High Definition little camcorder takes. I just want a standard def video, I don't care about high def.

Re: Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
OK, Based on a previous comment re: not formatting the disk before you run VideoPro, I went ahead and just put a brand new 8X DVD+R DL disk in, and selected "Create Disk". All was running ok. Then I got the error 257:0:0 "Convert step got some problems". I closed all my windows and looked for any other errors. None found.
This is the first error I started with yesterday. Please help!

Then there is clearly a problem with the content of your project.
What error messages do you get.
At what point does the render fail
What is in the timeline at that point?
It is pointless trying to burn a disc if you cannot Create a Video File.

Forget about burning to disc for a moment. Have you tried what I suggested and first made a DVD-compatible mpeg-2? Share > Create Video File > DVD? If so, what happens?

Re: Corel VideoPro X5, error 257:0:0 & 17128:1:4
When trying to create a disk:
Error message: "257 Convert Step Got Problems"
I'm not watching it constantly, because it takes a long time. I'd say it stops around 70% if not more.
I'll watch it next time, and verify where it is in the timeline.
Here's a note: I was able to create a video file on the disk 8X disk, but when it plays on the computer, it's very choppy. Also, I can't play it on a DVD player.

As I said, forget about burning anything to disc for the moment. Just make the DVD-compatible mpeg-2. Does that play smoothly in a software player?

I've attached a screenshot of one of the screenshots. Because it has red on it, I thought I'd pass it along to see if this is normal.

At what point in the timeline does that occur, and can you tell us what type of clips you are using in the timelines, particularly at that point
The red line is an indication by the optimiser that the section will be fully rendered, this indicates that some editing has been applied to that section,
Given that it is practically the entire project I suspect you have applied a filter
Can you give more info on the edits you have used.

I'm not sure what you mean by edits, like I said, I'm a 'newbie'.
I've added movie clips, transitions, music, titles, and photos. The photos have panning. The music fades in and out. The movies I've added have been trimmed.
Is this the info you need?
