To change project properties

up towards the top left corner of the VideoStudio screen click on "Settings"

from the drop down which opens choose "Project Properties"

A new dialogue window will open - make sure the drop down about 2/3 rds of the way down says MPEG files

In the very bottom right corner of that dialogue box click on the "Edit" button

Another window headed "project options" will open - it has 3 tabs across the top.

Click on the 'Compression' tab

when the tab opens change the drop down at the top from "PAL DVD" to "NTSC DVD"

Do not worry about the other tabs - or the fact that you cannot set the correct frame size - that is not important in this instance.

Click on the 'OK' button at the bottom of the 'Project options' window

Click on the 'OK' button at the bottom of the 'Project Properties' window.

OK the warning message about clearing the cache.

now try playing one of your clips - on my system that gives a smooth playback of the Camilio clip.

To render out a video with the correct frame rate

put your video in the timeline

Click on the "Share" tab at the top of the VideoStudio screen.

An options panel will open - click on "Create Video File"

from the drop down which appears choose "Custom" at the bottom

A "Create Video File" dialogue box will open.

Choose a location to save your file in by using the "Save in" drop down at the very top of the dialogue window.

give your new video a name by typing in the "file name' box about 2/3 down the window

In the 'Save as type' drop down I chose MPEG-4

down towards the bottom right corner of the dialogue window click on the 'options' button.

a "Video Save options" dialogue window opens with 3 tabs.

under the 'Compression' tab I need to select "H264 - high" to get the settings I want

then under the 'General' tab select the frame rate - 25fps for PAL

also choose the frame size - I again choose 1920 x 1080 to match my video

click OK at the bottom of the "Video Save Options" dialogue box

check the 'Save options' information box at the bottom of the "Create video file" dialogue window is confirming what you have set.

when you now click on "Save" in that window a video file will be created with the properties you selected - in the location you specified - and with the name you gave it.

Hi

Very strange, good to hear you have a work-round and can render / play the video.

Quite unusual though, if you add a NTSC video to the Pal timeline the video usually plays ok with the exception of loosing the odd frame 29 reduced to 25, it does not normally freeze.

There is something odd about the files from that camera.

Well the only other option I have at the moment - which again has worked for me - but I don't know about you now - is to convert the video in an external (free) video converter.

There are hundreds of them around but the one I happen to have and used is the FLV converter which I downloaded from here :--

http://flashvideodownloader.org/fvd-sui ... -converter

many others are available - use one of your choice

put the video from the Toshiba in - took a little bit of adjustment of settings to get it to produce a 25fps file of the right format - but got there

my original choice was a .mov file as that is what my original is - but despite it now having a 25fps frame rate it still played very jerky

I then tried a conversion to mp4 with a 25fps rate I put that in VideoStudio - and for me it plays fine - but ??

so perhaps in my case it's the .mov format that is causing the problem.

so - given that your videos do not appear to be .mov's David I am not sure whether I have helped at all.

for those who like to study figures - I am not sure why the properties direct from the camera appear to show two different frame sizes for one file.
properties of file from the camera
properties of file from the camera
converted to 25fps as .mov properties
converted to 25fps as .mov properties
converted to mp4 at 25fps properties
converted to mp4 at 25fps properties

I now feel that I have entered a mystical world, where nothing is explained, all is taken for granted and instructions are given by thought transfer.

I put my trust in Corel's support - what a fool I was. After explaining the problem, I was sent an email basically saying load K-Lite Codec Pack. Which I duly did, tried to use it, didn't understand it and could find no instructions. This I imparted to Corel, asked for instructions and got a reply "The K-lite codec pack allows you to properly play videos, audio and other media files. You will need to use playback software file Windows Media Player to play videos." - some help.

Loaded a file conversion utility, NCH. This seemed fairly easy to use and converted files from avi to mp4. All went well but no sound, looked in the FAQ's and, guess what, it said "Load K-Lite Codec Pack"

Does anybody remember the song 'There's a hole in my bucket', well that is how I feel.

Can somebody please help before I throw camera, software and probably computer in the dustbin

Hi David

“And how shall we mend it dear Henry…………”

Can you make a sample available for download , may be using 4 Shared or Media Fire, also Google accounts I believe can do it, SkyDrive is limited to smaller files?
4Shared I believe has a 2 Gb file size limit, that should be big enough.
Yes the downloads may be slow so try to keep the sample short, but long enough to view the problem.

Just to keep everyone up to date.

I have managed to convince Corel that there is a problem, which they have escalated to the 'technical team'

So while the hole in my bucket is still there, they appear to be collecting the sticks to fit it.

Keep looking for the next instalment

David,

I do not have your Toshiba camera but I would try the following. Use the Arcsoft camera software and check to see if the transferred original file showing 29.970fps can be changed to PAL 25fps and then output using the Arcsoft software. Then import this file matching the PAL project settings in Video StudioPro and see if you have the same problems.

*I would first remove the K-Lite Codec pack from your system. I have heard horror stories with this pack for playback, file corruption and uninstall. If Add/Remove does not work use the free uninstaller to remove it completely.

http://majorgeeks.com/Revo_Uninstaller_d5706.html

or manually remove

http://www.ehow.com/how_6330416_remove- ... codec.html

Hope this helps.

Further update for anyone interested.

Received the following email from Corel
"Dear Mr Devon,

Unfortunately until the support for this video format has been added to VideoStudio, there is no workaround available using VideoStudio.
You could try Pinnacle Studio 16 Plus, we have a free trial version available from our website here: http://www.pinnaclesys.com. I opened your file in Pinnacle Studio and I couldn't see a problem with the playback.

Yours sincerely

Hi David

Thanks for the feedback, not much to say about Corel

So they are saying that the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Encoder is not supported by Video Studio.

We did ask if you could make a sample available for download, not sure if you did that but certainly would be interested in giving the video a try.

I did send a sample clip to Corel and they couldn't make it work.

Am I unique in having this camera/software combination?

:!: Just to keep you all up to date, I received an email as follows:

"On 11/05/2013 10:37:39 am, My Case Support (mycasesupport@corel.com) wrote:

information or to let me know if your issue has been resolved? I will
assume there has been resolution if I don?t hear back from you within
the next 5 days, at which point I will go ahead and close your case."

To which I replied:
"There is no outstanding information or feed back on this case.

The case is NOT closed but has been escalated

My previous good impression of Corel and its products has been
severely affected by this whole case.

It seems to me that there a total lack of care, understanding and knowledge"

I then received a reply:
Dear Mr Devon,

If you reply to this case, it will be moved out of the escalation queue and the product management team will no longer be able to see it. I will put it back in the queue now.

Yours sincerely

Well, it doesn't happen often, but I am totally speechless.

Did you ever bother to upload a sample clip from the camcorder so that some of us here can play around with it?

I fully appreciate your frustration - but shouting at them here will get no response at all - no one from Corel management visits these forums.

In fact it appears that this might be your best way to get an answer ;- https://www.facebook.com/corelvideostudio?fref=ts

Good luck
