Where are video filter files stored?

Post by jparnold »

As I am having problems with a NewBlue video filter (Picture in Picture - see separate post with no replies so far) I would like to find out if video filters (esp NewBlue) are stored in a folder which is not a subfolder of Corel/VideoStudio (and which may not get removed during an uninstall). Does anyone know where they are located (as I cannot locate them).

I'm not at my computer at the moment (working on a tablet away from home) so can't check. But have you checked under C:\Program Files\NewBlue? I seem to recall the filters are in one of the sub-folders there...

Thanks Ken
Yes there is a NewBlue folder but not sure what the files are. I am also wondering if a VS uninstall would remove them and if not if a VS re-install would not overwrite them (having problems with loss of time line in the Picture in Picture filter). I might try copying the same files from another PC where I have VS X4 installed and P-in-P works ok.
I am just about to purchase a tablet - are you completely happy with yours and which one is it?

The New Blue PiP does not appear in the New Blue Folder, the only location I could find is in C:/ProgramFiles(X86)/Corel/CorelVideoStudioUltimateX*/vft_plug and named NewBluePiPVS.

So it looks like the only way for you rectify your issue is a complete reinstall of VS. When I carry out a reinstall, I copy all the folders that have additional downloaded content or additional plugins to a separate location then copy them back after the reinstall, saves a considerable amount of time.

Thanks Robert.
I have uninstalled VS X4 (including removing user data) and reinstalled with no change to my problem.
I installed another version of VS (which has P-in-P video filter) and it too has the same problem with the loss of time line in P-in-P.

I also installed VS X4 on a different PC and P-in-P works correctly which made me wonder if an uninstall does not remove the NewBlue files and the re-install may not overwrite those files if they haven't changed. That is why I was looking for the location of that filter (so I could delete it to force a re-install to write the files again).

I have contacted NewBlue who responded and asked for more information and screen image showing the problem but I think that I will have to now wait until next week for a reply from them.

Maybe it's a Windows related problem or some other application (eg Java etc). Everything else works ok though. I might consider a Windows Repair to see if that works if I can't rectify it my other means (hence the post here).

I would have thought that uninstalling VS should also uninstall C;/programfiles(x86)/Corel/CorelVideoStudioUltimateX4/vft_plug as it is part of the program. The NewBlue Folder C:/ProgramFiles(X86)New Blue remains intact and would not influence in anyway what is happening in VS because you would need to copy any New Blue files back into VS. The only location the New Blue PiP is stored is in the vft_plug folder, so should be removed during an uninstall.
You could try uninstalling again, then do a search of your computer for VS4 and delete everything found, also make sure you delete the registry entry for VS4, then try installing again.
The fact that VS5 also has the same issue for you does seem to indicate that some file remnants are being left behind during the uninstall.

Sorry I can't help further, hopefully you will have a successful response from New Blue
