memory problem while editing

Post by lungz_almighty »

Im using Video Studio 7, win XP, 1GB RAM, 60 gig hard w/ 38 gig free, and i use a 160GB external harddrive to store my files.
I make a lot of music videos and ive never had a problem with my crappy editor (win movie maker) and i didnt have a problem with studio 7 while making my first 2 Final Fantasy videos. I am now working video i captured from my Jak 3 game. The problem is that while im editing i try to preview my project every couple minutes while im cutting up the video and when i hit play and a message comes up that says out of memory. I hit ok and none of my clips will play anymore and a couple of seconds later it says that "directshow video engine is low on memory and cant work." Then vid Studio 7 just crashes and i have to do the stupid error reporting thing for XP. This has happened maybe 15 times and ive increased the preview memory from 1mb to 1000mb, i dont know if thats it but i saw it in preferences and it still didnt help. I've even tried to work with only 25 sec of video at a time but it still does it so i cant get ANYWHERE on my video. Would someone please help. I tried a trial version of studio 8 but it does the same thing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You are running into the memory leak bug. It is fixed in the 8.01 update. I believe there is no update for VS7. I suggest that you upgrade to 8 and download the update.

In the meantime, monitor memory usage in the Performance tab of the Task Manager. When page memory exceeds your real memory, quit and restart VS.

Notwithstanding the words of our resident grouch, very many of us have excellent results from VS8. Upgrading to it and the 8.01 patch sounds like a good idea.
In the meantime, is there something different about the video you are using at present? Could there be something there that is tying up the computer resources?

Hi
What is the location of your working folder?
Unless you have selected another it will be on your :C drive???????
Maybe its getting full with clips from your first two projects.
File /Preferences/Working Folder

Just a thought

Ron i am not a grouch!

I am speaking as i find!

Ulead VS8 is not the best product i have come across.

1) loads of bugs in it
2) a patch which initially did not wrk for people with upgrade versions
3) daylight savings timesettings fiasco (which the original patch was supposedly meant to fix earlier in the year)
4) synch problems with audio and video
5) pulsating pixels
6) jitter movement in pan and zoom
7) cant tell the differnce between 16:9 and letterboxed 4:3 video

I could go on.

But prospective buyers of this product need to know what they are lettting themselves in for.

At least with VS7 i had it working until this heap of Sh*t came along.

David,

I do not dispute what you say; a number of people have had issues with VS8, and these issues have been difficult to resolve. It remains true though that many people, including myself, have had no trouble whatsoever. I am not clever enough to be able to explain that; maybe it is something to do with what I alluded to in a recent post - the almost infinite variety of hardware/software environments it has to run in, and the inevitable conflicts.

If I may offer a suggestion: If I were dissatisfied with Pinnacle (for example) I would simply not use it. I would see no value or virtue in frequenting the Pinnacle web board and bagging the product at every opportunity. I fear that I would eventually lose credibility and respect. The same applies to Ulead.

Just a thought.

David

If you need to complain about Video Studio can you start a new thread.
This thread from ‘lungz_almighty’ has been replied to 7 times. now 8.

Three of which are relevant to his problem., the remaining thread has turned into a discussion / argument relation to the prose and cons of VS.

my response is relevant as the solution to the original postees question was to get VS8.

How can that be a good solution if VS8 has loads of problems!?!? all it will do is make this persons problems worse.

I have elaborated why i dont think this person should upgrade to VS8 until it is fixed.

what is wrong with that!?

As to pinnacle i have not sung its praises here at all. it is not the best either it has problems some less than VS8.

I sang the praises of VS7 when it was fixed and upgraded on this basis.

I lose no face if say that this software s*cks.

There are two sides to a coin. just because you rave over it it doesnt stop me from offering a word of caution here! a big one at that.

ok
but your reply did nothing to solving his problem.
if you sort his problem, he would not consider upgrading.

Your reply just started a separate moan within his posting.

Now you have got me involved

asking some to upgrade doesnt solve the problem either!

by the way i was originally so impressed with Ulead i spent a lot of money with them

here is what i have

Ulead Cool 3d pro studio
DVD WS 1&2
VS7
DVD Pictureshow 2.

VS8 comes along and throws DVD WS1 & 2 as well as VS7!

How can that be a good thing!

I'm trying to upgrade to VS8 but i check my folder all the time and delete all the old clips that i dont use antmore. The good thing though is that too many files could have been the problem because i was making a Jak 3 music video and i had recorded almost 40 clips from it and still had 22 from Jak 2.

I moved all the files to my external harddrive now and i havent had any problems, although i havent done much on it lately cuz my computer got a virus. Now im using the trial version of VS8 and im going to get a permanent version and i already downloaded the patch so thanks a lot guys.
