download browse cancel

Post by t1o9d3d1y »

Computer spec - -OS WinXP, 1.68GHz, 512 RAM
"download, browse, cancel" - -the response to "material attributes", "materials" and to the custom shapes library,
Material attributes work when I "cancel". Custom shapes won't work at all. Bumps work in a very roundabout fashion.

Is this normal for PI? I have tried reinstalling.
The same thing happens in basic and standard modes.

Why cant ULead publish a manual on PI?????

No, it's not normal, otherwise nobody would use it. Too little info to really be able to suggest anything. Why don't you download the manual from the Ulead web site, there are a lot of tutorials also, might help you get started.

Yeah! You need to be more specific about the difficulty you are having and the Error Messages you are receiving.

You get the PI Manuals here: http://www.ulead.com/pi/documents.htm

Do you mean that when you want to use a texture or similar, you get the notification that you have to download the attributes?

If so, when you press "cancel" Photoimpact uses the thumbnail version of that particular texture; which when applied usually means the image is minute and no scaling is allowed.

What you need to do is visit the Ulead site and download the various bits and pieces from there ("smart" download does not work!!). Each is winzipped and when unzipped, you have a self-executing file that should place the individual files into the correct directory within PI programme.

This threw me for a while. Why Ulead can't remove the "Smart download" menu is beyond me. Peruse this forum and you'll see numerous people have been confused as well.

I hope this is what you mean!

photoimpact not guilty!!

Post by t1o9d3d1y »

Thanks, Redfazer, yes, that's just what I meant; smart download does *not* work!!

Lot of difficulties encountered in using PhotoImpact 10. Eventually windowsXP told me that there was a conflict there turned out to be two conflicts. one with ZoneAlarm, the other with a program called MagicNotes. When these were outed, Windows ran normally, and so did the reinstalled PhotoImpact. And I can run SuperBladePro on it; I could not before, had to use PSP and transfer images to PI.

If Smart Download does not work, you can download the components manually from http://www.ulead.com/pi/esd.htm.

It seems like most if not all users of the ESD (download) versions of PhotoImpact are having this problem. Although it's nothing serious and there's an alternate download, it certainly causes a lot of confusion. Let's hope the right people at Ulead will take notice and do something about this... :?

The Site Administrator put a post up; I can’t find it, about the Smart Download problems. They are due to Ulead changing types of Servers and location of servers, at the same time trying new software so that the Servers would function better in future.

Guess they know of the problem just haven’t got things all together yet.

I take your point and respect your defence of Ulead.

However, there are two things to consider: people have been complaining about this since January of this year (see this forum) and it would take very little effort on Uleads part to post a warning or something similar on their PI download site.

So I disagree with you; I don't think Ulead is paying much attention to the problem not least demonstrating any appreciable customer care to their customers.

Redfaser

I don’t work for Ulead, so am not defending their actions, just stating a previous post.

I can say however, that I have had many problems along the same lines with many other software companies, Adobe, Creative Sound Blaster, Microsoft in particular, etc.. In past I tryed to resolve software issues which the Tech support new nothing about. In some cases, through persistence, I finally found White Papers about the problems on their respective Web Sites. Some of those KB’s had been written months before, so someone knew of the problem.

The point is that these companies are monolithic in nature, but spread out in many smaller divisions, like a many headed dragon. They don’t and sometimes can’t all communicate together effectively. Others face financial considerations and therefore have to establish priorities as to what gets taken care of first and so on.

I have waited for patches to software problems that have taken 3 months to a year for Adobe to address, even though the problem was a major one. So in my experience I have found that if one complains to Customer Service, and Tech Support enough they get the message and eventually make the changes. I have also found out that nothing gets fixed quickly.

Hi Redfaser,

If you purchase the download version of any Ulead software, there should actually be a note on where you can manually download the additional components (correct me if I'm wrong), aside from the download link for the main program of course.
