Strange results from crop tool

Post by sigmaker4u »

Crop tool is giving strange results
Example. I open an image and it is showing as 39 inch wide 30 inch height..... that bit would be correct.
If I crop to 3x4, what I would expect is the highlighted box to be relative to the size of the image. It isn't, it is a slight bit smaller than the 39x30 image so I have to drag the box down to the piece i want to crop out. No matter what the box size after hitting the tick I would expect an image now measuring 3x4 produced. It comes out 15 x12. Cropping 5x7 results in an image 33x22.

All the other settings do similar. Free form works ok though.
Any ideas guys.

Have reinstalled PSP and same thing.
I used to be indecisive, now, I just can't make up my mind.

So, to explain what is going on here.

PSPX5's presets are using an option called "AutoFit." When this is set to true it takes the aspect ratio of initial crop and then auto-fits it to the current image. And it uses "Maintain Aspect Ratio" to keep the ratio of the original crop rectangle defined by the preset.

So those new presets are made for the ratio, not the actual size. 3x4 literally means a 3:4 ratio image not 3 x 4 inches or px.

This isn't a bug, it's actually a feature, and a nice one at that, that unfortunately wasn't properly explained by Corel.

When you create your own presets, however, this option should default to False. So saving your own presets will not act this way.

So you can go ahead and just save your own presets, or, if you want to, you can edit the current presets and change AutoFit to False. Honestly, making your own would be faster and less of a hassel.

Excellent info! Thanks for that.

I had created my own crop preset for a Metric A proportion (1.4142 x 1.0000), but it wouldn't automatically expand to the largest crop area possible in an image.

I edited the .PspScript file to set
'AutoFit': True
but the crop still didn't automatically expand. I found that I also had to change the line
'Mode': App.Constants.CropMode.Custom,
to
'Mode': App.Constants.CropMode.CustomAR,
and now it works!

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done...
Just take everything out on Highway 61.
