DVD Authoring

Post by Tecstar »

As a long time user of Videostudio and DVDWS2 I still have the issue with VS Pro X4 that it wont let you create a simple text menu with text wherever you want it etc I could use Photoshop to create templates, but I don't know how. Has X6 improved any of this functionality at all? I tend to go back to DVDWS2 but with HD and Bluray it becomes difficult. If there are no improvements in X6 what other software to people use to create discs? I tried the Sony DVD Architect many years back which was great but very long winded compared to DVDWS2. Alternatively, how easy is it to create your own simple menu structure in another application with ability to assign buttons to text and things like that?

thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome

first I am a little confused about your comments about text menus in X4 - because any of the text in any of the menu templates can be moved any where on the menu screen - so could you elaborate on what exactly you want to do.

second - the files for the menu need to be .ufo files - there is only one programme available which will allow you to create them from scratch and that is Corel PhotoImpact - but you do need a certain amount of training in order to work up from a blank page - you might get there easier by starting with a ready made template and modifying it - but it is a bit of an art.

You cannot create .ufo files in Photoshop

Thanks. Ok, so for example in the chapter menu I seem to be forced to use a Play button icon instead of being able to use a text button saying "Play". I would like to insert the text "Play" or "Play All" next to the icon (if I am forced to keep it) but can't do it. I like to create basic text menu's most of the time and as in DVDWS2 would like to place any text where i want it and assign a function to that text if required. Typical text buttons would be "Next page" , "Last page" , "Main menu".

Also, I would like to designate the first selected button. Again, I seem to be forced to use the play button icon by default as the highlighted button and cant change it. For example, typically I would have the first item in a chapter menu as the first highlighted button.

Of course, if I am missing something and I can do all this in VS then great!

So you actually want to change the buttons and the functions of them - that is not quite what you asked in the first place - you said you just wanted to move the text links at will.

perhaps someone can help you

Sorry, missed that bit of your post
Wonder if you can make a menu in WS that you can import into VS?
