Uninstalled ASP
The latest version of Darktable is so good, I no longer need ASP and I've uninstalled it and am working exclusively with darktable now. The latest version 1.2rc, has camera and ISO specific noise reduction, multi-instance plugins, and so many subtle innovations across the entire range of plugins it just gives me more power and better IQ than ASP. And of course I like that I can interact with developers, make a suggestion, get feedback, and often see my ideas in code a short while later.
Glad to have used Bibble and ASP on Ubunut all these years. Produced some great images. But Darktable is already better and within a few months it will be the best multi-platform photo editor bar none.
See ya...

Re: Uninstalled ASP
Yeah, me too. I'm visiting on the off chance that ASP has had a recent update. Sadly, no.
I've been give Darktable a go for the last couple of weeks and am very much impressed. ASP has been uninstalled and DT 1.2 rc2 installed and I'm moving on.

Darktable it is here as well ... it was quite some learning curve for me to wrap my head around the way it works but now I'm flowing again
PS: I won't uninstall ASP though ...

Re: Uninstalled ASP
Darktable is great since it supports some camera models that ASP doesn't (unfortunately). But it's UI is really not user friendly at all. ASP is still unbeatable for this matter.

I'd rather run LR in Wine than use the atrocity they call UI in darktable. Or deal with their silly attitude of doing things only half-assed.

Re: Uninstalled ASP
Including the silly idea of mapping decrease/increase in UI brightness/contrast to keys F7-F10. It's impossible to find one setting resulting in a UI so pleasing to work with as the one in ASP, and even if you did, accidentally hitting one of the keys would ruin that. Or the idea of ordering plugins not alphabetically or by user choise but after some internal program logic. Completely ridiculous from a new user point of view.afx wrote:He took the words right from my mouthlundbech wrote:A short sarcastic review/comment on Darktable and other Linux raw image processing tools:

EDIT: Oh yes, forgot. You can have presets and styles and you can download some from their homepage. I downloaded 20 B/W film presets but you can only import one at the time. You can also only export one at the time. So all your presets cannot easily be saved for backup, unless you want to spend hours doing so, because they are stored in the same file as the database of imported images!
Darktable is not where you want to go. At least not yet. That may change sometime in the future.

Well, as he says: "The developers smart as they are, are definitely not photographers..."lundbech wrote:Darktable is not where you want to go. At least not yet. That may change sometime in the future.
I think you've got the answer right there about DT's future changes.
so long,
BTW, thanks for this article. It's interesting.

Re: Uninstalled ASP
Well, its easy to criticize other people's ideas and software. The Lightroom users criticize Adobe. ASP users criticize Corel. Heck, even the Silver Effects Pro users find some little nit to complain to NIK about.
I've been using Darktable for about a month. Some things irk me. The UI seems to have been designed by university math professors, and the manual was written by German scientists. The catalog is basic, file management is stupid. But the IQ is quite good, and the team developing it is open, communicative, innovative, and friendly.
They respond to me within a day!
ASP is pretty. UI is fantastic. But the plugin ecosystem is dead. There are maybe 3 developers working on this product. We all bought it and have a right to use it as long as it works for us. But like it or not, we will all have to move on to something else in the future.
For me, the future is now.
