True, but you can extrapolate a bit. I work on the assumption that the users who post here are probably more engaged than average, so when most people here are discussing alternatives, I think that speaks volumes. Also, you can say for sure that anyone with a camera released in the last 9 months has definitely departed from the userbase, and that number is only moving in one direction. As people upgrade their equipment, they'll be leaving ASP behind, unless some miracle occurs and Corel actually release something new. I suspect pigs will take to the air before that happens.lundbech wrote:Not all users are active in online forums, so we have no way of knowing this. I agree.
Corel must do something soon otherwise I would say that in 2 years time there will be no ASP. Who would buy a software that only supported cameras released prior to 2012?
Still learning after all these years!

It's a dangerous assumption. The two or three people that I know in real life who use ASP are very happy and they certainly are not active here.sauron wrote:True, but you can extrapolate a bit. You know them too? That's a funny coincidence!bananahead wrote:It's a dangerous assumption. The two or three people that I know in real life who use ASP are very happy and they certainly are not active here.
Re: Aftershot Pro Update Link
Just wanted to say "hi!", as someone who is still happily using ASP.
For me, ASP is still the best RAW converter for Linux.
However, I must say that two colleagues of mine have already converted to LR, more or less.
My newest camera (E-M5) is already supported by ASP (which happened before LR/ACR support for the E-M5, btw!), so I personally don't feel the pain some of you are suffering. All the functionality I need is there - and I don't really care that some of that had to be added via plugins (GradFilter, zPerspector, ... - thank you, guys!). And ASP even runs acceptably on my tiny netbook when I'm away from home! (Try that with LR or DarkTable or ...!)
Of course I'd love to see updates to ASP! It's just that I don't need them as urgently as some of you do, and that's why I've been mostly quiet around here.
And I'd also love to see Corel more active in this user forum here (Colleen used to spoil us in this regard, back then in the Bibble forums.)
Keeping my fingers crossed that ASP gets out of its zombie state again, and remains competitive for years to come!

I guess that Corel are reducing staff to zero that way they have no costs!!
Shame that they probably have no clients as well.... Definiton: A client is a returning customer.
These clients are what keep a company alive and well over many years.

Every so often I lurk here to see what's up, if there is any real movement on ASP. Every time I do, my decision to move to Lightroom is re-afirmed. I haven't had a single issue with LR (in other words I'm shooting and processing, not struggling) while people here are still grunching about issues and lack of support for software that is not even complete, let alone updated to include the latest cameras. Yea, I get the need and desire for you Linux guys to want something to use on your chosen OS. But you also knew when you made that choice that your options we going to be limited.
No more dangerous I think than to assume that because 2 or 3 people you know are happy as being an indication that ASP is thriving. I walked away from ASP more than 6 months ago and haven't looked back. Interestingly enough I tried very hard in early 2012 to convince 2 or 3 people that I know to stick with it. They moved on to Lightroom long before I did. As jknights asked, "Who would buy a software that only supported cameras released prior to 2012?". Will your friends still be happy if and when they buy an unsupported camera?bananahead wrote:

Linux = FreedomDocBrown wrote:Yea, I get the need and desire for you Linux guys to want something to use on your chosen OS. But you also knew when you made that choice that your options we going to be limited.
While Adobe are getting the same philosophy as Mac. It's like jail! They lock you in so that you cannot get out anymore. That's how they make money.
But you're right. Our options for raw converters is limited for the time being. On the other hand, because of the freedom in the Linux community, the programs get better every day. Just that ASP is an exception in that matter.
cheers

I lurk too and I can't use ASP because my camera is not supported. I did reinstall it today as I shot some files on my older camera and I really missed Andrea (Nostalgia) and wanted to try it out on these files.
Holy Crap ASP is so much faster than LR. Makes me really sad to have to trudge through long photo sets in LR now that I am reminded about how quickly I used to get through sets in ASP. It has, at the very least, that going for it.
