Hi Rick,

I highly appreciate that there is some hope to the plugin page coming back. Also I appreciate the statement that camera updates are considered to come up soon.
Now here I find the obstacle. Please can you make a clear statement what "soon" means? It might span a timeframe from 2 weeks up to a year and clarification is needed here.

I am very happy that a long term Roadmap for ASP is now being worked out but from my perspective the question is why this starts now and wasn't continued over the past year?
I do understand long term roadmaps as a evolving process that is giving every 1/2 year a continued outlook so a user community can see the company is taking care on its assets carefully,
trying to gain marketshare and being an innovation leader with open communication. This was omitted here.

As you are now open up to the community I will be very thankful on your thoughts and giving users believing ASP is better than L.... a future outside the competing A.... company, a future that will enable us to stay with ASP.

Regards,
Marek

Having news, or at least the possibility of maybe having news "soon" is refreshing, and would be a welcome change. Let's cross fingers, and Rick, welcome here. Corel reps have been quite sorely missing for months then, please do stay and share what you have. Don't be put off by harsh comments (I've made my share too), and understand that a lot of users are *very* frustrated right now. But a little goodwill would definitely go a long way.
What made Bibble a success, at the time, was definitely team communication and frequent updates, more so than just speed or IQ (Bibble had its weaknesses).

Thank you for the great summary and your observations about AfterShot Pro. Yes, our priorities for the server restoration are exactly that - fix the check for updates, and get the plugins back online. Camera updates are a separate issue and one that I will communicate about in another thread soon. Your point is well-taken though.

tundraquad... your welcoming nature is very much appreciated. The lines of communication are open now and I have more calls with community members tomorrow to keep the conversation going. The long term roadmap is actively being worked on right now and I will share what I can once I am able to. To your request, I'll post in this forum.

As for the update today, I had a meeting with IT earlier this afternoon and they have the server running in a closed environment. I ran some tests and my check for updates worked, but there were numerous formatting issues that needed to be resolved. Progress is progress though!

Best Regards,

Rick
Thanks for the positive feedback. Presently ASP supports my 3 cameras and works well on my Win 7 system. Will continue checking for future updates.

Hello Everyone,

As promised, the AfterShot Pro "Check for Updates" feature is back online as well as the plugin pages. For now, the plugin upload functionality has been removed. The forums have also been removed as they were identified as a source of the damage. Thank you so much for your patience while we worked through the issues and again, my sincere apologies for the time it took to get things back online...

Best Regards,

Rick

Good afternoon Everyone,

As all of us could notice, there's now a "sun beam through the cloud".
So, I suggest that we all stop complaining for a while, and try instead to communicate positively with our "Representative".
Any ASP user can acknowledge that we use the best product on the market. A Product that has a tremendous potential. So, let's cooperate with Corel to keep this product on top of the list.

Thanks to everyone.

Hi Rick,

When you indicate that the forums are the source of the damage, does it imply some kind of hacking ? Should we change our passwords ? Are plugins or executable files downloaded recently before the crash a possible vector of virus / trojan / general unhappiness ?

I may be paranoid but forums are often used as a gateway to hack into stuff...

Thanks,

Must not have been this forum, as it never went away as far as I can tell.

Hi Steve,

You are correct, this forum remains unchanged. I was referring to the old forums that were hosted on the AfterShotPro.com server.

Thank you for helping to clarify.

Regards,

Rick

Sure but I did have an account there... And if malicious people reached (and spiked) the exe files that might have been downloaded since the past few weeks... It doesn't concern me but it might concern some people.

The plugin site, the update check address (not the download) and the old Bibble forums where hosted on a machine that was not under control of regular Corel IT.
Looks like they finally got control of it.

Many thanks for putting your energies to resolving the 'Plug-in Site' issues.
We will await, with some apprehension, a statement regarding the ongoing development of the ASP product and it's relations with the Plug-in Developers.

I think we need to give Rick and the folks at Corel some credit for addressing some of the many issues forumites have. My guess is that this will take longer than anyone imagines. But at least it's a good sign.
Now all we need is a few tidbits of info about ASP updates. Hint!

I'd love to be able to, but the facts of the matter as I see them are:-
  • Corel bought Bibble Labs, and shortly after released already developed software as the "new" ASP.
  • Since then, there have been no significant changes to the product - no new cameras supported, bugs fixed, features added (but NoiseNinja got removed)
  • Corel fired the entire Bibble dev team
  • The beta testers no longer get access to anything in the pipeline, or any news
  • Corel representatives have been almost entirely uncommunicative regarding the future of the product
  • The *vast* majority of the userbase appears to have given up and gone elsewhere
No disrespect to Rick or anyone else from Corel who has contributed here, but the time for optimism is long since gone. ASP is a dead man walking at this point, and putting further effort into it is a mugs game. I did hold out a lot of hope for improvement when Corel acquired Bibble, but it's not come to pass. I'd love to be proved wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

With Noise Ninja not being a viable product any more I'd say that they really didn't have a choice.
There have been product updates and new cameras supported.

Although you'd really think that they'd be more on top of things with regards to cameras supported. A camera that has been released and sold to customers for longer than 3 months should be on the list. And if Corel didn't have buggy software they wouldn't be Corel. I've yet to see PSP without one bug or another, some are more serious than others.
