Aftershop Pro Check for Updates

Post by dFlyer »

Just started ASP and it gave an error that it's update checker was rerouted to click another link. Clicked that link and it's nothing. What is up?
Thanks.

Post by rickcarroll »

There's a new link to updates for Aftershot pro but it does not work. Any ideas?

Got one idea. There really isn't anything to put there.

Can you give us the link please? I have just checked the Corel.com website and the most recent updates there were from December 2012...

Ken, I think this is not about the web site links but the links from the update check in the program.

You get an updated link notification from within the program that then points to

Code: Select all

http://aftershotpro.com/www.corel.com/Corelinternational.html?function=updates&app=AfterShot&lang=EN&licenseid=540111115&productversion=1.1.0.30&language=0&isuser=1&OS=lin
which results in error messages in browsers, FF for example complains:

Code: Select all

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

Yes afx... that is exactly right. Then that link just hangs. I've tried the link in other browsers and still the same thing. It's too bad that Corel makes it so tough to just send them an email. It boggles my brain.

Thanks

I'm thinking of Corel as a business run by a single man (having all programming done by cheap slavelabour i Bangladesh or Myanmar or whatever) and therefore there's just no time at all for support or fixing the webpage!

This is a web address that should never complete.

http://aftershotpro.com/www.corel.com/
would be a major hole to easily at least crash the server. Most security engines would scrub and clean an address like that (at least Cisco does it).

Yup...
How hard can it be to construct decent URLs?
And of course, test them....

FWIW, I have sent a message to Craig Copley in Corel, drawing his attention to this... But I don't know what holidays they may have in the US or Canada, which could delay a response...

EDIT: bad news, I'm afraid. I got an almost immediate bounce-back message from the Corel server telling me that the user (craig.copley) does not exist!! Since the address I used is the same one that has worked in the past, I can only assume that now Craig has definitely left Corel...

Even if you strip off the redirection piece (aftershotpro.com/really go here), it still leads nowhere useful.
Did anyone try Evelyn Watts? She owns the last name I remember that hasn't yet disappeared that has ever been associated with AS

This is not a redirection. The redirection is done by the web server with something else, usually the .htaccess file.

http://aftershotpro.com already redirects to: http://www.corel.com/corel/ where ASP doesn't exist. But ASP is still listed under the "products."

Anybody remember how long it has been since ASP was in the "sale" emails Corel sends out all the time? Early Jan is the last I can remember. Been lots of other "sale" announcements for all the other products......
