VSX5 Stops a second or 2 from end of project?

Hi Bruce

The Video Photo and Audio libraries………

The clips showing here are thumbnails, a virtual clip representing a file on the hard drive.
Right click any and select locate on computer, that will open the folder containing the actual file.
From the library you can add and remove any clips including the samples.
Select a clip and hit delete.
This merely removed the thumbnail it does not delete the file on the hard drive.
However there is a method to remove the files by holding Shift+Delete will prompt you to delete the files on the hard drive.

The thumbnails in the library are not associated with any project so cleaning the library will not affect your projects.

Settings--Library Manager
Here you can export your library, this creates a backup that can be imported, should you wish to do that.
There is also a Reset Library option. This will clear the library setting it back to its default, as installed. You may be best to “Export First”
I created a folder on my desktop for my Exported libries.

Resetting the program to its factory state.
This is easy to do by re-naming the folder 16.0, you will find this folder within your Documents structure. Using XP I find it here………
C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0

Renaming the folder to “16.0 copy” will force the program to re-generate a new 16.0 and reset the program. It will reset the library, It did not reset the working folder.
If you wish to return to the old setup, simply delete 16.0 then re-name the “16.0 copy” to 16.0.

OK things you can try.

1/ Settings – Library Manager—Export the library to a folder on your hard drive, give it a suitable name.
2 /Settings – Library Manager Reset the Library, will return the library to its default. (two pop-up info windows will show)
3 / Settings – Library Manager - Reset the Library and you are back to normal.
Non of the above will affect your projects.

4 / Reset the program to its Factory Default Setting (simply renaming 16.0 then starting Video Studio)
5 / if you wish -- restore this by re-naming the 16.0copy to 16.0 folder

This action will not/should not affect your projects.

VS X5 SP2 update
I do not think it would affect your program but Windows 8, and the patch are relatively new so you never know, the only way to remove the SP2 is to re-install the program, I think.

Well, that is what I am thinking re-installing. Not sure if it was the sp2 patch. I have auto updates set and one came across updating the program. I think that is the problem (possibly) I did hear from tech support, but I do not think we were on the same page so I emailed them back.
I think they believe I meant on completing stage rather than the editing. I guess I wait and see what their suggestion is, rather than upgrading to x6 right now. I still have the other computer near this with x3 I think.
I think it is a glitch in the program. I haven't scanned the boards yet to see if I can find someone else with the problem.

I will do, I find as a lot of things people don't always report them. Like my DSL, I call they so no problem, so I call later and find out they have problems.
Only thing with Corel, they give the problem to one person from what I see, and until he comes on shift you don't get an answer.
I am going to try to reset and see if that will cure it, if not I will try uninstalling and re-installing. I do not think it is sp1, that came out in June (I think) and it won't let me install that
I think because my disc was newer and had it already. But as I said, the auto updates came across a few times. Unless I hear in the next few hours, I will start to
do the suggestions. I have save my folders separately and done a back up of the library.

Resetting to factory default according to the link above didn't work. I am assuming that is because it only resets the basics. I will wait till I hear from them and
reinstall, first I will do it without auto updates. I need to make sure that X5 is completely installed.
Though not sure about Corel, I received an email on new update called x5 lol open it and it is x6. I guess someone is not paying attention.

I hadn't tried this, but noticed if I try and create a disc, in the play screen on this part it will play the entire project to the end.
It is just in the edit part. Not sure if it means much, though I can complete a project (apparently) though not play it
to the end in the edit screen.

I had assumed that you had created a video file which also stopped short. Maybe I am mistaken.

So can you do that, Although I guess its gonne be difficult to see?

Keep pestering Corel. There have been other issues with Windows 8.
“Dutch” posted here and has received some interesting replies from Corel indicating problems that they now seem to be working on.

I will play around with it some more. I am not sure if Corel is actually understanding what I am saying (twice so far) Problem is I am on the East Coast of the US and wherever they are, his shift comes on at midnight which doesn't make for good communication. From what I have played around with doing several little projects, it always stop approx. 1.2 seconds before the end. Regardless of what the end consist of still picture, video, I will have to double check sound. My next step is to reload it, or uninstall it and re-install. I know that it worked a few weeks ago when I did a project. They occasionally have those few small updates that blip across and I strongly believe it was one of them. The program was bought after the major upgrade. Thanks Bruce

Service pack 2 was released around March 30, that is a few days after your first post. So not sure if you had SP2 at that time.

If you view your Corel Download folder you should be able to locate the file and view the date of download?
I think you need to look in C/ Program Data/Corel/Downloads.

If you have not done a re-install I think you should do so.

What I have listed In the folder is C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads\54 0233871_107004 then 5 subfolders with C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads\540233871_107004\1350939311047 which has a file that says VSPROSX5_SP2.
I am wondering if SP2 has caused the problems? It is dated 3/26/13.
Tech support last night gave me the same suggestion I tried in the thread about resetting VSX5. I am assuming just double click on it,
and it should re-install. Here goes something I hope.

Edited, when I try to install it I get "The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now Terminate"

The error message indicates that service pack 2 is already installed.

It does seem to indicate that the SP2 was installed 2 days prior to your original post.

As Brian says the message you received indicates that the patch is already installed.
Its about time Corel changed the wording of this message to be more meaningful -- “already installed” --- would do

The only way I know of removing the patch is to re-install the program, that has to be your next approach.

Thanks, I believe it is also, which I will wait for my midnight email from Corel and get it in the morning and see what their suggestion is. I was surprised though I could not reinstall it over the present one to see if there could of been something faulty. They suggested I go to their page and download any updates, though I did not see the sp2 available. It may have given me a similar problem when installing.
When I hear from them, I will set it not to check updates (if I catch it soon enough) and see how the program runs. IF it is fine then I will do the updates and see if I run into the same problem, if I do I may have to go with out sp2

This is frustrating, I received an email from tech support that said "Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.

Please try to restore the program to its factory default so that it can rebuild the cache file and eliminate the possibility of corruption on the program library.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions."
This is what I received yesterday and told them already I had done this, and would try again (with no luck)
I guess I will try uninstalling, and reinstalling.

I am wondering, I know a lot of programs like to leave a few bits around? I just want to make sure that nothing is left from vsx5, is there any registry or .dll's that I should be aware of?

I use a program called RevoUninstaller for uninstalling programs. It does an excellent job of removing almost all traces of an installed program. The Pro version can be used to install programs and it keeps track of all changes made to your system and you can then do an even better uninstall if needed.
