Hi Tommy

As I mentioned in my last reply I was able to render using the 640 x 480.avi Mjpeg with no problems. I was able to create a Mpeg, and Mjpeg.Avi, same as Project Properties and Same as First Video file.

The transition effect remained as 4:3 it did not revert to 16:9

So what are you doing differently to my approach above.?

Hi Lata,

Are you using UMPlayer or VLC Media Player? VideoStudio Pro X4?

I tried a couple of new things.

1) I watched the video on Windows Media Player 11 and choose Video Size 100%. During the transition the video size gets smaller but stays at 4:3, then goes back to the original size after the transition. If I choose Video Size Fullscreen, then the video size stays the same throughout the entire video.

2) I ran the video through a video conversion program, using a similar bitrate and set the output to avi using IBM Mjpeg codec, and the resultant video plays ok in both UMPlayer and VLC. I also converted to avi output using H.264/AVC codec and everything played ok. So, there's something in the original Corel output that is changed or removed by the video converter that makes them compatible with all three players.

Hi Tommy

I used VLC, Video Studio, any player they all play the rendered video ok

I have uploaded a VSP containing two 640 x 480 Mjpeg video files, (125 Mb) Wipe transition applied. Single file used twice to reduce the overall size in MB.

This should open using X4, however if you have problems the folder also contains the final rendered video including the transition.
For me it plays ok.

If you are still having problems, provide a similar Smart Package, keep the Videos short, then up to Media Fire
Or upload a sample of your video file..............

Thanks for going through all the trouble of uploading your video clips. I downloaded them and used your .VSP, as well as your original clip in a new project. In both cases the output videos were perfectly ok and didn't change aspect ratio during transitions. So my clips and VSX4 just aren't compatible with transitions. I will try to upload one of my short clips and post the link tonight. Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Tommy

It may be that you are simply missing a box to tick, a setting you are missing.
So yes if you can provide the VSP as well as a sample video I will check it out.
Try to keep the video short, that way the file size will be small and quicker to upload.

Hi Tommy

Yes I am having aspect ratio problems with playback using VLC.
Strange effect, not 16:9, much wider.

I can force VLC to play correctly, but that does not answer the problem.
So why do my files work ok yet yours give this effect.

The video you provided have been rendered using VS.
Can you provide one of the original clips before any editing has been done?

I will run a few more tests to see if i can find anything different, given time that is?

Hi lata,

Thanks for looking at my video. I zipped the files myself and there should be 4 files. I included the original clip, called "Clip 640 x 480_30fps.AVI". I also included two video files that I created in VS X4 using that clip, one when I chose the "Same As First Clip" option and the other when I chose the use Project Properties option. I also included the VSP file. Thanks a lot for looking at the original clip if you get the chance.

Hi

Thanks for that, I eventually found the original file.

The only way I can create a good video is by disabling Smart Render.
Share Create Video File—Same as—Options button – deselect Perform Smart Render

Rendering will take much longer.

Mjpeg is quite large, have you tried Mpeg4, the option Share Upload to web will give you a template, simply close the upload window.
Rendering is much quicker.

Again disable Smart Render

Hi Lata,

Thanks for finding this out. It worked. However, as you said, the rendering times makes it impractical to use except for short projects.

Do you have any thoughts about whether my clips might work with Smart Render enabled in X5 or X6?

I checked the Upload to Web output and it did indeed create small files. I don't know how to use that as a template because I couldn't find the H264 compression codec that it uses in the list of available compression methods when making a custom template. Also, this gives a mp4 output format. But I did download and install the free x264vfw - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec from sourceforge and was able to save as in AVI format. That codec has an adjustable quality setting to control file size but I still had to turn off Smart Render.

Besides rendering to the Same as First Clip AVI format, which is fast, I'm interested to output in AVI, because then I can import the clip into Virtual Dub and use the free Deshaker plug-in to steady some jittery video clips.

So I'm thinking that maybe the best bet would be to upgrade to X5 or X6 if my clips would work with Smart Render?

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi

First of all Mjpegs may be good quality but they are relatively large and take a long time to render.

Try using the Settings—Make Movie Templates Manager

Some options to try….

Quicktime using Mpeg4 Visual.

Mpeg4 H264

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the suggestions. I saved using the "Quicktime using Mpeg2 Visual" encoder but the resulting file was very small and of poor quality, even though I left the quality slider at 100%. I tried increasing the data rate but it wouldn't produce a file with that rate, and I tried specifying a specific file size output 10x larger but it also ignored that setting. So, basically, the output from the file is too poor in quality to be useful. Also, when I played the file in the preview window, it didn't run smoothly. I must be missing something here.

Just a side note. When output video files are produced with the transition aspect change problem, I found they don't have to be viewed in VLC or another external player to see the problem. The effect can easily be seen in the VS X4 preview window. Just play the video and pause during the transition. The video will then change size and aspect ratio while it is paused.

I really appreciate your suggestion, but I'm sorry to say, unless I'm not making the template using the proper settings, the 'Quicktime using Mpeg4 Visual' encoder seems to put out very small files of not very good quality.

Thanks again for your interest and help

Hi

Either remain using Mjpeg with its large file size and long rendering or explore other options that may create a good quality video.
Try using Make Movie Templates Manager.

I created a Mpeg4 to

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 640 x 480, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 4000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

This should be reasonable quality????

Hi Trevor,

Thank you very much for your settings. It worked well! Your settings gave very good output with a small file size. It even works with Smart Render. I really appreciate it.

I also tried to output to AVI with various compression codecs but they all produced larger file sizes. Also I had to turn off Smart Render or I would get weird results like we discussed or no video displaying at all.

Outputting a file in AVI format from just two AVI clips and a transition, with Smart Render enabled, seems like such a basic operation that I can hardly believe that it doesn't work properly. I'm surprised that it's not a well known problem and hasn't been addressed by Corel yet. I might upload a clip again to see if someone from this board would be willing to test this in X5 or X6 to see if it's been fixed.

Thanks again for all the time you've spent researching this and for your posts. I've really learned a lot from you and reading this forum during the last week.

Now, on to trying to edit some 60fps 720 x 480p video from a camcorder I have. I've read the thread "VS X4 supported Frame Rates?" so I know I'm in for some real fun.

Hi Tommy

To be honest I think the problem is the video files itself, there is something odd about the aspect ratio format, and maybe Non Square Pixel Rendering that is confusing Video Studio. So others will have the same issues.
I have just updated my OP to Windows 7 so will give your file a run on that once I have installed all the programs that is.

Smart Render fully renders changes to the video, that is the transition section, I guess Smart Render is not that smart when it comes to this video.
Disabling does the trick, and rendering to Mpeg4 is pretty quick.
