VS X4 Pro No Project Audio

Post by loremipsum »

Problem:

Audio in clips (video or audio) plays but will not play in project preview or in created video files or DVDs.

Devices:

No special devices just the normal PC setup (using 3 monitors).

Video Studio version:

VSX4 Pro: SP1, SP2 and SP3 added with nothing else added (templates etc).

Source files:

Codecs Note:

I first tried VSX4 with only the codecs on the PC from a new install - that is a total wipe of the two SSD drives in the PC and a reinstall from 'clean' of Windows 8 Pro on the 'c:' main SSD and a new install of VSX4.

The PC then had adobe flash player added - mainly just for 'YouTube', 'DivX' and 'Xilisoft - Video Convertor Platinum' - a package I have used extensively before and along sided VSX4 without issue.

When I found that the audio issue continued I installed the latest available 'K-Lite' package via 'CNet - Downloads'. Throwing codecs at the problem is not necessarily any help! I have used 'K-Lite' on and off for years though and have had no issues from 'K-Lite' (with VSX4).

Regarding .avi:

I am told there are some 800 plus known versions of files that have the .avi extension and this is problematic. However, I have tried many files and converted some to the somewhat 'standard' DivX, Xvid or H.264/MPEG 4 and had no luck thus far!

Have tried various source files from various sources. Have mostly tried .avi (DivX /Xvid) files but have also tried mpeg and mpeg 2. Have tried converting files from one type to other also.

I use the audio as it is per file and have tried splitting the audio and saving it as a .wav directly from VSX4 then using that .wav as a voice or music track. Split audio works in independent player (Windows Media Player) and plays directly in VSX4 as a clip but not when playing the project.

Project Properties:

PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 16:9

I have not deliberately set any of the properties manually and they seem correct for my usage.

PAL or NTSC:

In the UK using Pal.

Error Codes:

None.

Trying to make:

So far just testing VSX4 in Win 8 and looking to make standard DVD of legally acquired old B&W movie(s) or home video only.

Additional:

All my PC drivers are up to date - I check video and audio drivers regularly and run windows update often.

I have .net as standard with Windows 8 but had to install an earlier version as it was reported as required by a game (Lord of the rings online).

End:

I know I have not given precise audio and video data but this is because no matter which video I use the problem is present - I have tried many videos and audio over the last week or so.

I wonder if this is a Windows 8 Pro issue only as when I had the same PC setup with the same VSX4 and the same software previously on Windows 7, VSX4 worked a treat! That is as close to 'same' as is possible - I know Windows 8 is a bit different to Windows 7.

Hi

Sorry you are having trouble with X4 and thanks for the details.

As you mention it may well be an issue with X4 and Windows 7, cannot help there I do not have W8. Your best option would be to download the X6 trial to see if that performs better?

I was going to ask about your original video files properties till I read the last part trying many types of video.

I am assuming you are burning a DVD……..
When you complete your project do you first Share Create Video File-DVD or do you do Share Create Disc-DVD?

Share Create Video File -DVD will create a Compliant Mpeg suitable for burning a disc. Play the Video file on the pc, if you have the same issue repeat but from the Create Video File window, before you hit the save, choose options then deselect Smart Render

Hi,

I have been trying to reply since reading your reply - the day it was sent. This forum would not accept my details, or when it did, I was referred to an error page!!

Anyhow;

I have uninstalled Vx4 then reinstalled it - everything is as my OP except I removed the K-Lite codecs but the problem persists. I have found a curious issue too! When trying to preview a project, the sound is intermittent - that is that the audio sometimes in a preview and sometimes it does not ( I do not mean the audio level whilst previewing alters).

I also made sure that my audio drivers / software are up to date and set correctly (Realtek HD Audio Manager / Audio is working great on everything I 'throw at it').

I have tried Share>Create Video File>DVD (then each option) with 'Smart Render' and without - sometimes the audio is recorded sometimes it is not!

I have all but given up on Share>Create Disc as I have enough 'coasters' as it is! I don't mind wasting a few disks in the process of making this issue go away but sometimes enough is enough!

I'm at a loss now to fathom why VSX4 worked previously in Windows 8 but now, from a formatted drive and clean installs, the program is playing silly beggars!

So, I'm going to DL the VSX6 files and give it a go. I have seen the 'trailer video' for X6 and it looks fantastic and I will likely buy it if the trial shows no audio issues.

Thanks for the reply. :)

Hi

First if you cannot create a Mpeg2 DVD file without problems don’t bother trying to burn a DVD you are just going to waste a disc.

Although you say the Audio Drivers are upto date, can you check Windows Updates—Optional to see if there are any available?

I only ask as I had an issue and an Optional update to my Graphics Driver fixed it for me. A new pc at that?

If X6 works ok then it may be a Windows 8 and X4 compatibility issue.

Current Corel products that run on Windows 8

Have you installed the update packs for X4 from Corel

Hallo (again),

So, creating any type of video file gives no sound! The play/clip plays video and audio but play project is still sometimes audio plays sometimes not- there is an option called something like 'Enable Audio While Scrubbing' but the issue remains with that option on or off.

I know of the Mpeg2 thing and this is why I have not so many 'coasters'. I only go on to create disk if the audio plays as expected but still have the issue that there is no sound on created DVD - even when sound plays clearly in the preview!

On windows update; I run that regularly but I use the Realtek HD Audio Manager and sometimes the windows update disables that software. All other audio works 100% and it is just VSX4 that has the audio issue. Further, VSX4 worked 100% when I first installed it to my Windows 8 rig after a clean format and install of Windows 8 but now, after another clean format (as I changed drives) and a clean install of Windows 8 with all drivers updated to the latest editions, VSX4 is playing silly beggars!

So! I went ahead with the VSX6 DL and install. I completely removed VSX4 before installing VSX6. I can now do what I want to do as VSX6 is not showing the audio issue. :)

I will buy VSX6 complete or upgrade when I have squirreled away the pennies for it - I have 30 days of trial just now and that will tide me over. :)

It is just odd that VSX4 worked 100% with Windows 8 before I did the disk change / clean format / reinstall(s).

Thanks for the help / suggestions.

What happens if you create a folder set or image file and play that on your computer via a software player such as WMP or VLC?

I suspect that it is a compatibility issue between W8 and X4.

Hi

You could have tried running X4 in XP compatibility mode to see if it made any difference, but you say you have un-installed the program.

When you save the project files “save as Type” for X4, then the project will open in X4 should you install the program again.

But I agree the best option may be to upgrade to X6. You have time to give it a run to make your mind up.
