Re: Can no longer edit jpg images
Hi Guys, I've been using PSP for over ten years and currently on PSP X5 for the last six months. I use Windows 8.
I too have been having the "Please verify the file is valid" problem and increasingly so lately.
I'm a little confused by the replies offered because the incidence is spasmodic. For instance, when I attempt to import say, 20 photos to the computer, they all import.... but two or three turn out usable by PSP, one or two are openable but broken up and the rest get the dreaded message.
That tends to belie any single CAUSE outlined so far as those would apply to ALL imported files..... ANY THOUGHTS ???

Might be best to make your own topic.
Do you use an actual photo importer? A photo importer might explain the issue, if the software is behaving improperly. Or are you just dragging and dropping between your camera and your computer?

I'm sorry but there's no way that Bins is accessing my images - the only images it deals with is program icons. And if it was accessing images, how come PSP works OK if I run it as admin while Bins is still running.Simone Corel UK wrote: There must be something in that Bins program that occupies JPGs (and Tiffs if I remember that list of missing file types correctly). I would suggest to look into the Bins settings or contact their support and ask why this program has such impact on another program.
I think part of the reason users are having so many issues with PSP on newer operating systems is that PSP still uses Microsoft Visual C++ 2005. If someone at Corel spent the the time to port PSP to a newer version of Microsoft's products perhaps we'd all be better off.
I have posted a incompatibility report to the Bins web site - lets see what they have to say.
For now I'll just set my PSP shortcut to always run as admin, a bit annoying - but at least it will work.
Bins is written be one of the authors of many of Stardock's utilities - see: http://www.1upindustries.com/photodrawken wrote: You might be see if Stardock Systems has a similar utility..

I use Sony's PMB to import my photos. But I've done that for years with no problems.... until the last couple of months.
There is some sort of incompatibility problem somewhere but I can't nail it down. I've made some photos able to be opened by PSP X5 after doing a "save as" to the desktop and opening from there..... but that too is intermittent... I've spent hours experimenting.....

In order to work successful with PSP, you need to have an administrator account. The bar can be on the second position from the top and you don't need to right-click "run as an administrator".
If you are logged in with an User account, PSP might not work in many ways as an User has got limited access to system files.
I hope it helps.
Please don't take this too seriously: Windows has got 2 types of accounts: administrator and user. For now I'll just set my PSP shortcut to always run as admin, a bit annoying - but at least it will work.

I think Biggestguy is right here, because it's all about finding that interface where PSP wants to access something and (or Windows is assuming) another program still keeps it.

Re: Can no longer edit jpg images
I know about the two account types. I did mention in at least one earlier post that my account is an admin account. And I have UAC set to one step below the top. But, now with the conflict between Bins and PSP, I need to start PSP with "Run as Administrator" for it to work correctly with jpg files. If I start PSP normally I can't open, edit or save jpgs - I can't even save a newly created image as jpg.Simone Corel UK wrote: Please don't take this too seriously: Windows has got 2 types of accounts: administrator and user.

I've altered the program's properties to always run as admin, like this:

Which causes this to appear every time I run it, but at least it works:

And yes, my account is an admin account:

There is something wrong with your Windows setting. This shouldn't be the case and is not normal. There is something going on in the background. Your account is blocked by something. No idea what but your admin account isn't any longer full working as it is indented to do.

I know having to run PSP as admin is not normal, but I have to due to the conflict with Bins. (Note: if I'm not running Bins, then I don't need to run PSP as admin).Simone Corel UK wrote:@AdrianW

What is normal, is that some programs DO need to be specifically run as admin even in an admin account. Especially those that change windows settings (like codec configurers) or when installing new programs for instance.
And there should not be anything wrong with my account - I've only just done a total refresh of the PC two days ago.

You bought Windows 8 a couple of months ago, I suppose. I think you would need to check the exchange between Sony software and Windows 8. Is your Sony software made for Windows 8?Biggestguy wrote:I use Sony's PMB to import ... for years with no problems.... until the last couple of months. In your case, that Sony software is working in a path line "from USB to C:\Photos" (as an example!). It keeps the hand over all photos in "Photos".
What happens if you remove the Sony software and use Windows Explorer to copy pictures from camera to your photo folder? Do you have still the same problem?

Re: Can no longer edit jpg images
I realize this is a very old post, but users are still having these problems. I am using Windows 10, and when it updated a few weeks ago my PaintShop Pro 5 started having problems. I could manually open a file, but it would not automatically open from other programs/browsers. I also have PaintShop Pro 9, and it was still fine. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, changing file association settings, etc. Nothing worked! Eventually I saw this video, and it worked immediately to fix the problem. Hope it helps you too.

Simone, If I understand you correctly, I should not be able to run any PSP versions while I am logged in as user.Simone Corel UK wrote:Please don't take this too seriously: Windows has got 2 types of accounts: administrator and user.

As others have commented, I have two accounts (Users?) on my computer, one set as administrator the other as user. I have had this setup from XP through Win7 to Windows 10 which I use now. I rarely log in as administrator. Every day I log in as user and have run many versions of PSP while in the user account.
It is true that when I install PSP or other programs I need to have administrator privileges - a prompt comes up asking for the admin password and I then continue as user, no change of logging in. There are occasional other instances when I am prompted for the password but that is rare. PSP never asks for the prompt.
I think your statement is misleading.

Mark, you can use PSP as a Windows "User", but you cannot install or change file associations as an "User", Windows doesn't allow this. Please read about UAC in the internet.
