VS 6 hangs wile loading project

I did a clean install of VS Ultimate 6 after completely removing VS Ultimate 5 from my system. Boy, do I wish I had not done that!

After installing VS 6 and all of its extras, it starts up fine. But when I load project (VSP) files I had created using VS 5, it starts populating the timeline with clips and then hangs hard. It never comes back … i have let it start loading before bed, and the hourglass is still spinning when I wake up the next morning. Have to forcibly close it.

Not all VSP files will hang VS 6. Just the most important two projects. Periodically, as I'm developing my project (and a separate parallel project), I will create my own work back up by doing a File Save As with a new number at the end of the file name. I am presently working on Act I v14. I have verified that v1 thru v3 work fine, but v4 thru v14 all hang VS 6, as well as Act II v1 thru v8 (which is all of them). These two projects represent hundreds of hours over the last 10 months. If I have to start over, I will kill myself or start drinking again or something.

Is there any way for me to find out what is going wrong, and, hopefully, fix it? Maybe turn on some event logging or something? Some way to analyze this damn problem.

I would remove it and reinstall VS Ultimate 5, but I am unable to locate installation disk #1. I have my serial number stored away in a CodeWallet database, but the disk is mislaid somewhere in this debris field that is laughingly called my home computer room. So, if anybody knows how I could lay hands on, or download, VS Ultimate 5 disc #1, I would be finitely grateful!

I am nearly done with the last phase of this project; I just need to finish making an open caption version for some Deaf members of my church.

Do your projects hang at exactly the same spot every time, if so, what can you remember was in the timeline at that point, it's possible that you have used text or some effect that you had in X5 but is not in X6, like New Blue titler which is standard in X5 but not in X6 unless you download from the Corel Guide 'Do More' When installing an upgraded version it is preferable to Pack your projects using Smart Package before removing the old version.

Okay, I believe it is hanging up at the point where the first of the text effect stuff comes in.

So, V6 Ultimate comes with NewBlue FX. The only NewBlue item I see under 'Do More' is a different add-on that costs $69.95. If that is what I need, that I am really pissed . This is bait and switch. There's no indication in the promotional literature that the upgrade to V6 includes the removal of capabilities that are in V5. That's not an upgrade … that's a downgrade.

So, now, having spent all that money on the V6 upgrade, my projects are being held to ransom for another $70.

Where, oh where, might I have found any information that says "do a Smart Package before you upgrade?" I have been using this product since its earliest incarnation, and I've never had any trouble with upgrades until now.

Anyway, if they are going to demand $70 for me to continue my work, then I want to reinstall X5 and sell this downgrade version to somebody else. Any idea how I can get a replacement installation disk #1 for X5 Ultimate? Again, I have my X5 license key saved on my computer, and it is visible on the Corel website in the list of products I have registered. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how a registered owner gets a replacement installation DVD.

If you look in the Corel Guide, Tools, you will find New Blue TitlerEX is a free download.

I'm only seeing two of those, and neither of them is TitlerEX, and neither of them are free.

I did a Google search that pointed me at a couple of board posts indicating that those folks got a link to it in their registration e-mail. There is no such link in mine, but those board posts may have been related to earlier versions.

The Google search also pointed me at some download locations. None are Corel, none are official. Not dumb enough to get any closer to those than the link in the Google search.

What the fudge? Gosh darn it! Fargin son-of-a-batch-of-cookies! Dang nab it!

Ok, so lets confirm a few things.

1. You purchased the download version of X6 Ultimate upgrade from Corel
2. You received a confirmation email (Order Receipt/Invoice) from Corel
3. From the link provided you downloaded and installed Video Studio X6 Ultimate, file name VSX6_Ultimate_PF
4. From the same link you then downloaded and installed the Bonus Pack

If all the above statements are correct, then you should contact Technical Support, you would have received a separate email from Corel with your 90 day free support code.

You could try resetting X6 to its factory default, this is the response I had from Corel When I had issues with the 'Do More" tab

Reset the program to its default settings:

In order to reset VideoStudio Pro X6 to its factory default setting, you will need to rename or remove a specific folder under your User Profile folder.

Before performing this procedure, please ensure that VideoStudio Pro X6 is not running.

Note: This will reset your library and you may need to re-import your videos once completed.

On Windows Vista/7:

Click on Start.
Click in the search box at the bottom of the Start menu.
Type in: %appdata% and hit enter.
In the new window, find the Ulead Systems folder.
Open the Ulead Systems folder.
Open the Corel VideoStudio Pro folder.
There should be a folder named 16.0 here.
Rename 16.0 to 16.0_old.
Launch VideoStudio Pro X6.

Once you have renamed the folder, VideoStudio Pro X6 will now reset to its factory default settings when you launch the program.

Just a thought, did you download the trial of X6 before you purchased the upgrade and then activated the trial, if so, that could be the problem, it seems that you cannot successfully activate the trial version

And just to add, locate the serial number for X5 then find the disc.
Uninstall X6 then re-install X5
Then install X6, you can run both versions on your pc, but only one at a time.

Your X5 was a disc version, the serial number will not work on a download version, so don’t bother trying to download Video Studio X5. It wont work.
You need the disc.

Editing with Video Studio, you indicate saving the projects several times using Save As this will create versions of the VSP.
It is possible to nest projects, that is add a project to the timeline, adding one project into another can cause problems.
Are you aware of nesting or do you think it may have been done by mistake?

Video Studio X6 should be fully functional as X5. You should not have a problem in opening projects in X6, obviously you are having problems?

The Bonus packs provided additional software Boris Graffiti Mercalli, Rotopen etc
Did you install these on X5, if yes did you use these to edit your project.

Do-More—there were some Title Packs, about 4 I believe, did you download these when running X5? Even so they should not cause a problem.

However if it’s the title that is causing the problem then we should be able to open the VSP using X5, We will just get a re-link request but would not be able to view any content other than any samples used.
But the titles should work.

When you try to open a project file you can see the content being read in the progress bar are you able to identify these files.
You could of course use the Screen Capture to record this?

Zip a VSP and attach to your post and I will have a look.?

The ZIP of the VSP is just over 1.66 MB, but this board has a 256KB file limit. Split ZIP files are not permitted.

I have searched fruitlessly for the X5 disk. I'd have to completely tear this room ... maybe my whole apartment ... apart, and there'd still be no guarantee. But I resolved that ... bought a used copy of X5 Pro Ultimate (disks, box, manual, no license key). A disk is a disk, so I assume this will work with my key.

All the same, I surely would like to know why X6 doesn't like my VSPs.

When you uninstalled X5 did you delete any files, including VSP Files.
My thoughts still with nested projects?

I think that if X6 wont open the project X5 will also have problems?

Okay, color me clueless . Did you send it to one of my e-mail addresses (comcast or gmail), or to the messaging inbox on this Web Board?

When I uninstalled X5, I only cleaned up the application's files and directories, and ran CCleaner on the registry. I was extremely careful not to do anything even close to my project files. VS5 lived on my D: drive, but all the project files live on the N: drive. Never went near the latter while cleaning up.

Thanks for the VSP project file.

I was able to open this without problems, except for the re-link request, to be expected.

There is a lot going on here, and should I have the MTS files used it may take longer to open.

I have split the project into its timelines, you should have received VSP’s for top track, Titles only, and top track and titles combined.
Are you able to open these, you will/may have to re-link to your files for some of the Projects.

I did notice you had applied Mercalli Stabilisation to the top track a clip over an hour long.
I am wondering if the amount of editing applied is simply overwhelming your pc?

Anyway are you able to open the projects.
