VideoStudio X6...Is It really X5?

Post by AlexKrycek »

Hi. I wonder if someone could explain this to me. Last week I purchased a brand new VideoStudio X6 Pro box from Amazon. Once I had installed the software, I was having some difficulty with the DoMore tab. Essentially, some of the free title/content downloads were referring to VSX5?, and this caused problems on the install of the titles etc from the DoMore tab. Kindly, I did receive several replies from other users on the forum which I thought had resolved the problem. My biggest concern was that there was an installetion trying to install as X5 when I have the brand new X6 version. This was a clean install on to a brand new PC so I never have had X5 on there. I have not gone anywhere on the internet as to why this would happen.

Anyway, on the advice of Corel Support (and I am emailing them as well), I decided to do a complete re install from scratch today. I removed the program and all the necessary registry entries so I was ceratin this would be a clean install.

To my horror, upon installation, the splash screen once again refers to X5??? How can this be?? I have enclosed a picture to confirm the same. My worry now is that I am going to be in the same position as before. I will try and download the free content under the DoMore tab, and as I have installed X6, the install will fail as it will be looking for X5.

That is most odd. I have the boxed version of X6 Ultimate and the splash screen starts with "Whats new in VideoStudio Pro X6". I also have X5 installed but there is no spill over from there.
There is little difference in the basic operation of X6 to X5, all the "new" bits are add ons to the previous programme. I have no experience of the download version as my Broadband is so slow it is not practical to download large programmes.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

I also have only the X6 splash screens - no indication of any X5 anywhere that I have seen

I have the download versions of X6 Pro, and it too makes no reference to X5 on the splash screen.

But presumably, when you click on that same orange icon up in the top right of screen, and then click on the cogwheels to the top right of the splash screen, it says 'About Corel VideoStudio X6' and when you select that, the next screen also refers to X6?

Hi Ken, it does indeed.

The concern I have is that you may have seen my earlier post, when I downloaded the free content via the DoMore tab, on my previous installation, it downloaded a "content" pack for X5, and so when it tried to install, as I am on X6, it aborted. Thereafter, every time I loaded up X6, it kept trying to install. I could not get rid of it - hence why I have done a complete clean re install today.

I am just a little perplexed as to how this could be happening.

Something also peculiar is that under the Instant Project option on the main screen, amongst Beginning, Middle, complete etc I have "Test"' directly under HTML 5. Is this correct?

I certainly don't have a 'Test' category... but then again, nor do I have one for HTML5 either! I have Beginning, Middle, Ending, Complete, Custom, HD Projects and also Graffiti (I have the Ultimate package). This is an identical list to the one I have in X5 Ultimate which is installed on the same computer. All a bit strange...

Thank you Ken...

I have returned the software tonAmazon. I genuinely believe that this CD must contain a version not consistent with the most current. There must be bugs in there...

I also have the "Test" option in X6, also had it in X5, have absolutely no idea as to its purpose, but it's doing no harm so I just ignore it.

Hi

There was an issue with the Do-More and download site, which indecently used the same or similar templates as X5.

Corel were aware of the Do-More issue but in the past few days have fixed the downloads.
They have also increased the download list, I see 115 download options on the templates tab.

Please read this post regarding this issue.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=49995

The instant Projects Library category is ok, what you see depends on whether you have downloaded the template. The Test, well yes I have seen this on another pc, I will check this out again, not sure why that showed, but certainly after I downloaded a template.

As mentioned by Ken, you may also see a Graffiti category, but only for the Ultimate and after installing Boris Graffiti

As far as I know the downloads from the Corel Guide is working correctly.

The "Test" option only appears after you have downloaded the HTML05 template from the "Do More" tab - - strange - wonder why Corel did that

Hi Brian

I think it may be just an error that Corel haven’t noticed?

I do know that the list of available downloads has been increasing over the past week, now stands at 115 in the Do-More templates, so I think Corel are still working updating the Guide, at they now appear to install to the correct places.

Ahhh... Thanks Brian!! Now at least I know why I don't have the HTML5 option showing. I'll download the template and see if it appears!! (And Test, of course... )

EDIT: Yes, that added both HTML5 and Test to my screen. But with a quirk...! In fact I downloaded templates HTML 5, 4, 3 and 2 (though noted the recent addition of 7 - 10 but I'll do those later). When I reopened X6, under the HTML category icons for only 4, 3 and 2 showed while HTML 5 shows under Test... Curious...

Incidentally, I don't appear to have either HTML 1 or 6 showing for download. Has anyone spotted those?

Ken / Brian

Have you been able to download all the available content in the DoMore tab? I have been able to do so other than for 1 template where the download button is available, but nothing happens when you click on to this. The template being "bonus content".

The NewBlue icon under the DoMore tab seems to also have a glitch. I have downloaded the template under the NewBlue icon' and i can see the templates under the FX icon, but the icon remains available to download under the DoMore Tab? It seems not to realise the program has already downloaded it.

I had just the same when I first clicked on the "bonus" download icon - nothing happened - but on checking around I found I had it - have a look here :-

C:\Users\'username'\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\Bonus Content

see if you have some sub-folders - "audio"/"video" etc - and in them are a number of further folders - especially in the audio one - coontaining all the bonus content.

but I am not going to download any more templates - I have a few and very rarely use them so I see no point in filling my hard drive with files I never use.
