Paint Shop Pro X2 - maximum number of activations

Post by mjn »

Due to PC troubles i've had to do a number of rebuilds and activations, etc.

However, it appears i've reached the maximum number of activations (can't be many, maybe 3 or 4?) and now i can't run PSP X2. Corel won't help me, as its a legacy product, so i've a bit of software thats useless to me :x

How can i get this sorted, as i'm highly unlikely to pay for a new version at this rate.

Did a Corel represntative tell you that? Because that's not what I was told. I just jumped on the Corel live chat service with an agent and inquired about activation of X2. They said they could still help raise the activation limit, subject to approval of course, for X2.

So they don't support X2 as it is a discontinued version but the activation limit can still be raised. So I'd jump on them about it.

I got the activation limit increased, but it took me over an hour with the online chat!!!

Disgraceful really. All the corel person wanted me to do was buy a newer version, and kept telling me he couldn't raise the activation limit as X2 was no longer supported. Yet, in the end he increased the limit!!

That is so weird. I mean, yeah they want you to buy the newest. xD They did the same to me. But why they tried saying they couldn't. It's beyond me.

Well glad you got it worked out at least.

This is where Corel has to realise they are dealing with people that are all different in their requirements and the features of the latest issue may not be appreciated by those with older versions.
As well some features in older versions may work differently in newer versions.
In my working system I favour X2 for power editing, because of its stability and that you can scroll zoom right out to the corners to clone or paint, wheras that feature was crippled in X4 and X5 where you have to scroll within about 50 pixels and then move your cursor to the scroll sliders to get right up to that corner or edge.

I use X4 over X3 now for text operations and am slowly using X5 for some of its features.
Eventually after a couple of computer replacements I may also want X2 to have its number of activations increased, unless of course they listen to users and bring in the best features of all versions or the option of using those or not using those.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

That's why I always buy the disk versions, there is no limit to the number of times you can install them, and they don't have to be activated.

I think, from now on, I'll probably just buy the disk versions, too...

That is the only way to fly if you don't want to deal with these type of issues. May take longer to get the disc, but worth it in the end to me.

You have answered my question, I just want to move my Paintshop pro from my dying computer to my new one
It seems I can activate it again, ok that is good. they are being nice though in a sneaky way I hate when software companys have this policy, you should own a licence for life no matter if it is bought online or CD

Obviously my Paint Shop Pro has a DEATH CLOCK built in

I have some other software products that have simple online licence management, and this is easy to sort out

Such as the worlds best web editor XSitePro
http://www.xsitepro.com/index_r.html?p= ... nials.html
Intellimon is the way a good company behaves, Corel could take an example from them

1, Corel has no Knowledge base article about this
2, There is no Online Licence Management
3, That sucks
4, Obviously Corel behaves this way to make more profit
5, Tell them that sucks

The underlaying result is frustrated genuine customers often have to pay them twice

I just had this issue, too, installing PSP X3 on my new PC. I like this version because it's exactly 10 versions from the first one I ever bought, as a shareware product!
Telephone support said I had exceeded the maximum of 5 activations, but they extended it to 8.
So that makes it functional, at least, But I didn't get an activation code to use in future.
I told the support rep that I don't "get" why there is any limit at all since (a) Corel has discontinued activation keys on new versions and (b) it wouldn't be necessary if I installed from a disc.

He didn't seem to understand the question...
Is there any major software company that has such a dog's dinner of a support system? The web-based support, especially, couldn't possibly be more obfuscated or opaque...

Or am I wrong to include Corel as a "major software company"?
