Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
Hey guys, I have been trying to add an MP4 video to edit in VSP. Every time I select the file, it would tell me that "The file had no video data" when it does.
I tried to install the Service Patch which is said to include imports of MP4 files, but it won't install. It tells me " The installed version of the application could not be determined"
Any ideas on a fix around?

Re: Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
Welcome to the forum!
Silly as it sounds, that message indicates that your copy of X5 is already fully up to date, so no patch is required.
Now you say "every time I select the file" ... But where are you selecting it? And how are you selecting it? Are you in the timeline or library window, and right clicking, then selecting Insert Media?
Where did the video come from originally? And do you have any other program which can tell you the properties of one of the clips?
I ask these questions since it is strange you are having this problem. Successive versions of VS, including X5, can certainly edit mp4 video, and also produce it.

Re: Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
Apologies for double topic posts. My videos came from capturing themin an Elgato game capture. I right clicked on the timeline where the videos would appear and clicked on insert video.Ken Berry wrote:Welcome to the forum!![]()

Re: Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
I have no trouble inserting my MP4 videos into the timeline. If your's won't work, you will need to convert them using a 3rd party converter to a format that VideoStudio will accept. That's about all that can be done.
MotionStudio 3D 1.0; Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7 (w/o sp1) (Download), Corel PaintShop Pro 15.2.0.12 (Download)

Re: Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
Thank you for the advice, but if you can then I should be able to too.
The videos are taken from an HD capture card(ELGATO gaming). They are set at MP4 format with no chance to change them. After editing the videos in the ELGATO software, I transef them to an external hard drive. It will always tell me that it does not contain any video data. It is compatible with the audio track for some reason. If I add it there, I can hear the sound of the video but that's about it. Hope this info is a bit more to get an answer.

Re: Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
Hi
Try using a program called MediaInfo to view the details of the video file.
It may be simply non-standard using unconventional frame sizes or audio combinations. For HD 1280 x 720 would give widescreen, 1920 x 1080 full HD.
Are you using the latest version of Quick Time Player?

Re: Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
I'm using also an Elgato GameCapture HD framegrabber and I don't have any problems adding this videos into VideoStudio X5 Pro. With the exception that I can't open some of these files. Normally, the Elgato software produces M4V files, I think thats are in fact normal MP4 files. But the point is, there is normally no problem to add MP4 format files to VideoStudio X5 Pro even for files created with this Elgato product.

Re: Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
What extension does your video use: .mp4 or .m4v? Although VS is supposed to be able to handle .m4v, the .m4v codec can be troublesome. As I understand it, it was developed mainly as an Apple format of mpeg-4, but can have a Digital Rights Management (DRM) component. And if it uses Dolby AC-3 audio, it also handles that in a non-standard fashion. As I also understand it, Apple encodes the video in its video store with .m4v precisely to protect its copyright...
Unfortunately, I know nothing about the software used by Elgato, so I have no real idea if it incorporates the DRM component I mentioned above. But if it does, that could be the cause of your problem in seeing the video stream.
FWIW, I used to have problems getting VS to "see" .m4v video produced by Adobe Premiere CS4. I never solved that one, and had to get around it by converting it to standard mp4 using a third party software (at that time SUPER). If you have Quicktime Pro version (as opposed to the free public version), that should also be able to convert it to standard mp4 using the .mov extension.

Re: Can't import MP4 Videos to VSPX5U
The videos are in an MPEG-4 format.
There really isn't much to tell from my perspective as I have no other clue in what to do.

Could you perhaps upload a short 20 sec or so clip to a free web hosting site so we can download it and play around with it?mauricio14 wrote:The videos are in an MPEG-4 format.
