This is really disappointing to learn... I think Corel might be the last video editing software on the earth with less than 10 audio tracks.
Audio is 50% of every movie outside of silent films... sigh

Even if VideoStudio had 1000 audio tracks, there would still be a lot of development that needs to be done. VS isn't a very strong audio editor. For example, when you apply an audio fx, you can only listen to the first 6 seconds of the clip, and you can not make adjustments to the FX while you are listening. You have to stop playback before you can adjust. There is a clip volume envelope that you can adjust while playing back, however.

I don't need it to "Edit" audio... Corel audio effects add soooooooo many artifacts I could never use any of its effects on something semi professional. I just need more than 4 layers of audio... I edit a lot of films, action scenes, fight scenes.. things that often require more than 4 layers of audio.

For home movies I concede that 4 tracks is fine... I am probably just trying to use this product for things beyond what its designed for.

CVSX6 GENERAL QUESTIONS:
------------------------

(1)DISC AUTHORING - MENU "subtitle tracks":
-------------------------------------------
There is an option to add subtitle tracks.
In a case of more than one subtitle tracks, is there a way to select from menu which subtile
you want to enable?
Or you just can select it through your dvd player remote control?

(2)DISC AUTHORING - MENU "audio tracks":
----------------------------------------
There is an option to add subtitle tracks but there is not an option to add audio tracks.
Why i can not add and audio tracks?
If for example i want to make a video with 3 audio and 3 subtitle tracks standing for
English, Greek, and German languages, how can i do it?
Why CVS is not working like DVDWS2(DVD WORKSHOP 2), where you can create a multilanguage menu,
and from menu you can select which audio track, and which subtitle track you want?
Why DVDWS2 almost 10years before CVSX6 has MORE features regarding the disc authoring?

(3)DISC AUTHORING - MENU "moving path":
---------------------------------------
CVSX6 offers to some of its menu templates the feature:"MOVING PATH".
This works as follows:
There are 2 files: The .ufo and the .ini files.
Now, the .ini file contains MOVING PATH CODES for each menu element(e.g:battons, title, e.t.c).
And that .ini file is connected with its corresponding .ufo file(the "image" part of the menu).
The result is that the final menu during starting its element is getting to screen with moving path!

Now, i own the software PHOTOIMPACT X3.
As you know you can create from scratch a .ufo dvd menu.
But without the accompanied .ini file for giving to menu a moving path.
Ok, with Photoimpact X3 you can go to its properties and add a URL connection to an .ini file.
Therefore, when both .ufo and .ini files are properly inserted to CVS menu folder, you can
use it in CVS with moving path!

Now, here is my question:
How can i create my own .ini file?
(I do not want to take a ready .ini file from CVSX6 template. I want to create it from scratch.)
Is there a way to create the .ini file with PHOTOIMPACT X3?
If not, with what software can i create it?

(4)DISC AUTHORING - MENU "moving path" and ".ini" file CODES:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Each .ini file corresponds to a menu .ufo file, and it gives the moving path of each
menu element(battons, title, e.t.c).

I open the .ini file with notepad, and for each menu element there is a
specific CODE which corresponds to a specific movement.

For example:
Effect1_OnObject=TITLE_1
Effect1_ID=CCA2A23C-01AF-4A76-89E7-7B3C5F1BB9AC

Here is my question:
How can i create such a CODE(CCA2A23C-01AF-4A76-89E7-7B3C5F1BB9AC)?
In other words, how can i translate a specific movement to a CODE?

(5)CAPTURE - from TV Tuner:
---------------------------
My country is CYPRUS and uses the standard DVB-T MPEG-4 signal.
Now, your software CVSX6 scans and finds all the chanels.
But only gives a sound. NO PICTURE!
Why?
Note that i already own the X2, X3, X4 versions and ALL gives NO PICTURE - only sound!
Your technical department advise me to do a lot, like unistall and reinstall the softwares e.t.c
but with no success, and they promise to fix in the next vesrion, but again in
X6 version still the same problem!
I beleive the problem is in the software CODECS, because other softwares - for example
Arcsoft Total Media 3.5 - capture with no problems.
Please sent me an update patch that will fix this SERIOUS problem.
Do you?

(6)EXPORT to HTML:
------------------
For CVSX5 you advertise:
Supported output formats:
Video: AVI, MPEG-2, AVCHD, MPEG-4, H.264, BDMV, HDV, QuickTime, RealVideo, Windows Media Format,
3GPP, 3GPP2, WebM, html

But for CVSX6 you advertise:
http://www.corel.com/corel/product/inde ... 30513#tab4
Supported output formats:
Video: AVI, MPEG-2, AVCHD, MPEG-4, H.264, BDMV, HDV, QuickTime, RealVideo, Windows Media Format,
3GPP, 3GPP2, WebM

As you can observe the html is missing!
Why?
Does X6 has less features from X5 regarding the HTML?

(7)CVSX6 and PAINTSHOP PRO:
---------------------------
Photoimpact X3 can create DVD MENU for CVSX6.
But Photoimpact X3 is discontinued from Corel.
PAINTSHOP PRO can not create DVD MENU for CVSX6.
Can you please make an UPDATE PATCH in order PAINTSHOP PRO can create DVD MENU as PHOTOIMPACT X3?

(8)CVSX6 Screen Capture:
------------------------
I want to capture but i want the MOUSE TO BE INSIDE A SMALL YELLOW little transparent CIRCLE.
But CVSX6 has not such a SIGNIFICANT option.
Am i correct?
If NOT, please let me know where is this option.
If, YES, can you FIX this with an UPDATE PATCH? - PLEASE - WE NEED IT!
Please let me know.

(9)I use CVSX6 to create a DVD.
------------------------------
First i use it to create a dvd disk image.(iso). This results in an audio out of
synch with picture.
So, i try again with all the same settings but instead of create a dvd disk
image, i create a DVD folder. THIS RESULTS WITH PERFECT AUDIO -
PICTURE perfect synchronization.
I perform this experiment 3 times, but all has the same results.
I think CVSX6 needs an update patch to FIX the AUDIO SYNCH
PROBLEM WHEN CREATE A DVD DISC IMAGE(ISO).
Please let me know.

I will appreciate your help.
Many thanks

Well - we'll see what answers you get - but first let me clarify

It is not OUR software - we do not work for Corel.

It is not OUR technical deppartment - we do not work for Corel

We cannot send you a patch for Videostudio - we don't have one and don't know how to make one.

ditto for Paintshop Pro

I am sure some of the other USERS may help with some of your questions - but please understand you are not talking to Corel here

I have not completely read you overlong post where you list too many supposed problems. Like Brian says, nobody here will have any update fixes for you - get in touch with Corel with those.

The only comment I have is with your supposed problem #9. I always create a image file before burning and have never had audio/video sync problem. So I don't think any update patch is required.

In relation to the same problem #9, have a look at an answer I just posted to another user with a video lag problem: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 55#p267355

Regarding your other questions, this is the best I can do:

1) I have never used the subtitle feature so cannot answer this one. Hopefully someone else who does use might have an answer.

2) You can't add more audio tracks because Corel has not included more than are already there. And you can't compare it to DVD Workshop, which was a much more expensive and specialised program when it was still available.

Off the top of my head, the only thing I can think of to add more audio tracks would be to make a video using the extra audio you want, but with a single colour bar as the "video". That could then be put in one of the video overlay tracks and Chroma keying used to blank out the colour.

3) I have no idea how you would go about that. Only the Corel technical people could possibly answer that.

4) Same answer as 3.

5) If you have other software which successfully captures the video, then use it and then edit the resulting video in VS. I assume you are connecting to some capture device between your computer and TV. Such devices normally comes with their own software which is tweaked to work with their device. VS can only work successfully with a limited number of those devices, so we always recommend using the software which came with the device to capture the video, then edit the video in VS.

6) I hadn't noticed that HTML was missing in X6, but then again I have never used it in X5 either. Only Corel could answer your question.

7) We have been asking for several years for PSP to be able to produce UFO files, but while PSP X5 (and I think X4) could accept UFO files as input, they cannot produce a new file in that format. I think this is already in the wish list for PSP X6.

8.) No comment.

9) See the link I posted at the start of this response.

I study your answer about adding AUDIO truck.
As you advise:
"Off the top of my head, the only thing I can think of to add more audio tracks would be to make a video using the extra audio you want, but with a single colour bar as the "video". That could then be put in one of the video overlay tracks and Chroma keying used to blank out the colour."

Can you please help us on the following:
1.How can i make a single colour bar as the "video"?
2.How can i use Chroma key to blank out the colour?

Many thanks

For the colour bar, see the image below. Choose whatever colour you want and drag it into the timeline. Then right click on the colour bar in the timeline and choose "Change colour duration", and set it to the length you want to sound video to run for. (Alternatively, you can left click and drag the yellow bar at the right hand end of the colour bar to the length you want.)
VS_Colour Bar.jpg
For the Chroma Keying, with the Options panel open, click on the Attributes tab if it is not already open, then click the Mask & Chroma Key button as per the next image.
VS_Chroma.jpg
Then, in the next window which appears, change the transparency to 99 (as per the red arrow). You will see that the red overlay in the previous image is now fully transparent.

Re: X6 question

Post by GeoVa »

Many thanks for your great explanation.

PART 1:
--------
I do this and work.
But, i can not see how this will help me in the MENU authoring part, to create a single video with the option to change the audio language.
Can you please help me to understand this final stage?

PART 2:
---------
I post this regarding my above question No9.
After a long study, i get the solution to AUDIO SYNC PROBLEM.
I want to share it to help also others facing the same issue:

CVSX6 - STEPS:
--------------------
1.Select Share > Create Disc > DVD.
2.Click the Add Media button in the top left and add your new video.
3.Check in the Options cogwheel icon in the bottom left of screen to make sure 'UPPER FIELD first' is ticked.
4.Then burn.
BUT THIS WILL RESULT IN AUDIO SYNC PROBLEM.
So:
5.CANCEL
6.Select Share > Create Disc > DVD.
7.Click the Add Media button in the top left and add your new video.
8.Check in the Options cogwheel icon in the bottom left of screen to make sure 'LOWER FIELD first' is ticked.
9.Then burn.

SIGNIFICANT NOTE:
In order to work without AUDIO SYNC PROBLEM, you must follow 1 to 9 ALL steps.
If you deside to go through 6-9 steps, then the problem of AUDIO SYNC exists.

Here it is the point:
CVSX6 needs an UPDATE PATCH for the above SERIOUS PROBLEM!

Notes:
The video i use is captured from DVD-T Tv tuner.
The dvd folder with the iso, creation has nothing to do.

Re: X6 question

I'm sorry but I have never added subtitles, so would not know how to handle them in the building of a menu. But I suspect -- fairly strongly -- that VS does not include any capacity to choose between subtitle tracks in the creation of a menu.

As for the solution of your sync problem, I am glad that you resolved it. However, I am a little surprised that it was a question of changing from Upper to Lower Field First. Was your original video Lower Field First? If it was then of course you would have to maintain the same Field Order throughout the project, including burning. But if your original video was Upper Field First, then you would get other problems in the final disc if in the burning process you changed it to Lower Field First.

jecklehead wrote:Does it have more than 4 audio tracks...?
Sorry that I'm late to the party with an answer to this question. As Ken said, there are a maximum of four audio tracks. However... all the overlay tracks have audio, and audio on those tracks works more-or-less the same as audio in the audio tracks.

I don't know what form your audio tracks are, but let's say they are MP3 files. You could load the MP3 into an audio track, then drag black to the main video track. Stretch the black to fit the length of the audio file. With the black highlighted, go into the attributes and adjust its transparency to 99. Now render the file. Once rendered, you can drag it to an overlay track. I forget the number of overlay tracks you can use, but it's a lot more than four. Of course, this adds an extra step, but it might be worth it if you only need a couple extra tracks.

Hope that helps!
