Video Studio X5 Pro
I'm having extreme difficulty in trying to change the shape of a just the Title's solid background shape (proportions). I want to retain the solid background color behind my text to cover up something at the top of a video clip.
For some unexplained reason, the (yellow squares) "resizing handles" do not work properly. The ones in the middle (top and bottom) do not stretch the background shape taller or smaller, but instead they act exactly like the corner (yellow resizing handles)! The middle ones stretch the background proportionately wider (and larger overall) and/or more narrow (less width and smaller overall) instead of how they are supposed to work. Plus, they seem to "snap" to some invisible grid instead of precisely points where I place them to.
Any way to control this very odd behavior that I haven't found?
Is there some other workaround to "block-out" something which is across the top of the video clip?

Hi Old_Friend
Seems like your post has been missed for a few days.
The Yellow resizing handles are to adjust the size of the text, and for that Corel feel it should be in proportion, at least that’s how I see it.
The coloured backdrop is attached to the text so resizes with the text.
All is not lost, you can create your own coloured backdrop by using one of the Colour clips, Place in the overlay track will allow you to resize to any shape you wish.
Animation may be a little limited, but a simple fade is the easiest to achieve.
Another option would be to hit Enter to create another line, you would have to add text, but choose the same colour as the backdrop, adjust the font size of the extra line.

Re: VS X5 - Shaping Title Backgrounds behind text
Hi, lata! Yes, I was thinking that it would never get answered.
I noticed that when I have the text (with its background) in the preview window, that I can select either the text or its colored background, separately. I thought that since the background could be selected separately (and it has its own handles to resize it), that it was supposed to be resizable in any direction (as the handles indicate!) . That makes sense to me. Obviously, Corel doesn't think so.
I managed to get the effect I wanted even though I couldn't do it with the text itself. I started over and added solid Graphic shapes, sized them to fit the area I wanted to cover up, then added my text. I did that before logging on today and seeing your suggestion. I believe that's what you suggested. Anyway, I spent too much time trying to do it using the text background 'block'. It's only my opinion, but I still think that it would be far easier for users to control the text background shape (since, it does have handles already!) than to employ the addition of multiple, individual Graphic shapes to do the same thing, but requiring extra steps and extra filesize to the project.
Thanks, lata, for replying. The issue is now solved (more or less). heh heh.
EDITED: I wanted to reply to your comment "Another option would be to hit Enter to create another line, you would have to add text, but choose the same colour as the backdrop, adjust the font size of the extra line."
If Corel had allowed using "spaces" and/or "Carriage Returns" to effect the shape of the background instead of having to type actual Alpha-numeric text, it would have worked easily for what I wanted.
