Hi Peter
Have you tried reinstalling the libraries?
Go To C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files\Setup\RunTime\Quicktracks5Installer
double click setup.exe

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Just to let you know, you are not alone. Since I installed Window 8 Pro 64, (now 8.1), Smartsound has been greyed out in VS 6, and VS 5 that had worked in Windows 7. Previous files made with VS 5 with Smartsound audio have working video work but the sound files are empty.I have tried every fix on this thread. I even contacted Smartsound technical support. They have not heard of a problem from Corel, and there has been no change in Smartsound since their fix in VS 3 or 4. I too am waiting for Corel to fix the incompatibility with Windows 8

I've tried every suggestion in this thread short of reinstalling the OS!lata wrote:Hi Peter

Not this one though - the file (and folder) you mention does not exist on my system!

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Hi Peter
Well by the replies re-running the Quicktracks5Installer is not curing the problem, just an option to try.
Are you installing from disc, if so view the discs content.
When we install from the downloaded file the installation setup files are first extracted and saved to here :-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files
At least that’s for windows 7 I assume the same location for Windows 8.
Do a search of the pc for Quicktracks5Installer.
Once this is installed folders are saved to :-
C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc
These are the Smart Sound files used for the Auto Music option.
However the folder may be hidden by the operating system??
Any folder-Tools – Folder Options – View Tab – tick – Show Hidden Files and folders, but think you can see these???

My "default" is to show hidden and system files. I am installing from DVD disk.
I've already gone through all the steps for removing the software, cleaning the registry, checking that the files (including the SmartSound ones) have been removed, and all the entries I can find in the registry have been removed (as far as I can tell) and then reinstalling from the disc. I've also tried installing the software on a "virgin" Win 8.1 Pro 6b bit installation, and get the same results.
Clearly, I'm not the only person having this problem, but Corel seem to be ignoring it. There's a limit to the time I can spend chasing what is patently a Corel problem. Maybe the problem is the disc distribution, and does not occur on the downloaded version (in my opinion there should be no real difference). Either way, it's a problem that Corel should be spending days on, not me!
This is not the only problem I have with this software, and that Corel are ignoring - most of the proDad plugins do not work on my system either - they complain that a specific DLL is missing (it isn't, and neither is it hidden or protected in any other way for a "standard" user). I seriously cannot believe that the disc installation of this software has ever been tested by Corel on a Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit system.
I charge my services out at a much higher rate than the software actually cost me, and so far I have spent many days chasing problems in it - clearly to me, the Corel system is a high cost solution, and there are many other systems on the market at the same or less initial cost than the Corel system, so to me the solution is obvious! I will walk away and install a competitors product if that gets me out of this hole. Magix looks like a good option, and I know from personal experience that they take customer support seriously, unlike Corel. I've worked in the software industry for over 37 years, most of that time as a systems software engineer and programmer, but I've also worked in support myself, so know the other side of the coin. In all that time, however, rarely have I come across a company that simply ignores its customers as Corel does.
Sorry to rant - I know it's not your problem, but I do feel frustrated, and Corel's lack of support is costing me money that I can ill afford.
Peter.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Hi Peter
Interesting that you are installing from disc, I wonder if other users with this problem are doing the same. Although “snowstorm” has managed to fix the problem?
Can you copy the disc content to your hard drive, then locate and install “Quicktracks5Installer”
or re-install X6 from the files on the hard drive.
If you cannot find this file then I will try to make it available for you to download, its 274 Mb
Thought, have you ever installed X6 Trial Version, that’s a download rather than disc.
Peter and another thought, have you installed QuickTime.
As far as I know QuickTimme is required by AutoMusic.
It was always provided by installing Video Studio but I believe Corel removed the installer from X6?

Re: Auto Music grayed out
I did wonder that myself. I think "snowstorm" actually had the problem when upgrading from Win 7 to Win 8. He (or she) also is using the 32 bit edition.lata wrote:Hi Peter

This may be one major difference between disc/download ... on the disc, there is no such file - instead, there is a folder called Quicktracks5Installer (under /Setup/RunTime), and that contains a setup.exe file (331KB), which calls the requisite "SmartSound Quicktracks 5.msi" (if you try to run the MSI file directly it complains and tells you to run setup.exe). The .msi file is 6.3Mb. I have run it now (i.e. outside of the whole disc "envelope" installation process) and guess what? ... no difference!lata wrote:Can you copy the disc content to your hard drive, then locate and install “Quicktracks5Installer”

No, this is a completely clean install from disc. I suppose I could try that, but I wouldn't want to complicate the installation even further by adding even more variables, and make any diagnosis impossible (I might want to try and install on another machine some time in the future, if I can ever get this one working properly).lata wrote:Thought, have you ever installed X6 Trial Version, that’s a download rather than disc.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Good afternoon Peter and Lata
Again just trying to help
First thing:
Since we are talking about 'installing' may it has something to do with Windows installer...
Please verify if under the following
C\ProgramFiles\Corel\CorelVideoStudio Ultimate x6 Setup Files\Setup\Runtime\QuickTracks5Installer ;do you see Windows Installer-KB893803-x86.exe
and
C\ProgramFiles\Corel\CorelVideoStudio Ultimate x6 Setup Files\Setup\Runtime CommonDataInstaller;do you see Windows Installer -KB893803-x86.exe
I understand those are old installer but they are part of the setup....
Second thing:
I would try to install first the Common Data Installer/setup.exe and secondly the QuickTracks5Installer\setup.exe
Peter for your info in regards of the 'setup.exe' file I am showing 330 kb and in the QuickTracks5.msi I am showing 6.20mb
Bye

Both of those files exist, but I doubt they play any part of the installation on a 64 bit system (in fact, if you try to run those exe files, they error on a 64 bit system).
Running the common installer then the QT5 installer makes absolutely no difference!
setup.exe is usually just a wrapper for calling the msi file via the setup.ini file - it's telling, I think, that the setup.ini file is dated 2010, and contains no sections for anything past WinXP - another reason for me thinking that there has been no real testing done by Corel.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Just thought I'd post a final comment ref this SS problem. I've now installed VS versions 11-X6 on my Win8.1 machine. VS X5 is the ONLY version where SS is not accessible. Further through Corel's FB page, I've posted about this, and the only response was in summary, VS X6 is on sale buy it. VS X6 is the only version that I have not purchased, however do currently have the TBYB version installed.
So nothing new to me, Corel has no intentions of trying to correct this, or for that matter interest in it. After all, VS X5 is an old version. PFFFFFT!!!

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Presumably, the TBYB VS X6 version is a download - I think there is a difference between the boxed and download version - I've been completely UNsuccessful in getting the boxed version to work with SS enabled! So far from being a n"old version" problem, this is very current, and yet still Corel seem uninterested!Ron P. wrote:Just thought I'd post a final comment ref this SS problem. Re: Auto Music grayed out
You're correct that they are not interested. Yes VS X6 was the DL TBYB. I did receive an acknowledgement from Corel. They new there's a problem however not going to be fixed.
Dear Mr Petersen,
I have checked and unfortunately there is an issue with some 64-bit Windows 8 installations and SmartSound for VideoStudio Pro X5. As we are no longer producing patches for X5, it's unlikely that the issue will be fixed.
The new VideoStudio Pro X6 is compatible with Windows 8: http://www.corel.com/corel/product/inde ... id=8100022
