Hi,
I wanted to check if the restart after installation and before first start of VSP does the trick.
So I restored a backup from a few days ago, performed all windows updates, installed Quicktime, downloaded VSP.
Then installed VideoStudio X6, restarted my Laptop and started VSP.

Guess what, Smartsound again did NOT work!
So back to square one, still not idea how a clean install of Win8 Pro solved the issue.

I took the audit files, and looked for differences between the two installations, Quick time ,Smart Sound and SS Common data all appear to be same versions.

Note: Also Graphic card and other drivers are the same version.

Win 8, SmartSound, and X5 automusic grayed out problem. Corel support has followed up on this and is analyzing the data from my computer. That analysis will determine what the next steps will be. I will post further information when I have more information.

Dears,

Here is the link for service pack 2 of VSX5.
http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloa ... X5_SP2.exe

This pack resolved many issues, but it didn't include anything about Auto music greyed out issue. For the suggestion to resolve this issue, our CSS will contact you to try if it can work. Definitely we won't suggest you to reinstall Win8.

Thanks,
Yvonne

upon further consultation with customer support, it has been confirmed that there may be conflicts with certain installations of windows 8 and X5,X6 and SmartSound plug in. I have been told that it has been referred to engineering and that a patch may be needed to resolve the conflict. Until then, there is not much more anyone can do. Dutch

I'm still having this exact problem after just installing today (7 months after the original post). Presumably Corel are not putting any effort into fixing this!

My X6 Ultimate installation is on Win8.1 Pro. Tried all of the suggestions here short of reinstallation of the operating system (life's too short!), all to no avail.

I'll add my name to the list of those having this SmartSound greyed out problem with VS, my version is X5 Ultimate. It seems to be a problem with Win8.

This is obviously a problem with VS X5 (and probably X6) and Win8, Win8.1. To test this, I installed VS X4 (Ultimate) on my Win 8.1 machine. The problem does not exist in VS X4. :x

I had a ticket for this, and it was referred back to development in early November, and there has been no response from them since.

Not a creature was stirring, not even a Software Engineer!

Hi Peter

I have contacted Corel and they confirm that someone did report this issue, don’t know who they did not go into detail, I assume it to be you, but they indicate a fix was provided. :?:
I have now asked where the fix is, is it part of SP1.

Have you installed Service Pack 1?

Hi, Iata,

Corel's "fix" was a reinstallation, which had no effect. I was told that it had been escalated to engineering, and have not heard anything since. I have SP1 installed. As far as I can tell, there is no way to track issues sent to engineering, and certainly, no further information has been added to my ticket tracking.

So far, my experience of Corel's support has been pretty poor, and I'm not sure I could recommend Corel to anyone else based on it. When they were Ulead, things used to get fixed, and not ignored! I've used Magix in the past, and they were pretty good, so I may well go back to using that if a fix isn't forthcoming soon - 3 months is a long time to sit twiddling your thumbs without so much as a "we're looking into your problem and will get back to you soon".

Good morning to all

I had similar problem last October while moving from WIN7 32 bit to Win 8.1 32 bit
I uninstall VS X6 Pro Ultimate
I uninstall my free Antivirus AVAST and cleaned registry and files.
I re-installed VS X6 Pro Ultimate and was then able to use Auto Music

Hard to explain but it worked for me

I went through the same steps, with the exception of uninstalling AVAST (I disabled my own antivirus, though). I'm using Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit edition, though. The "fix" didn't work for me.

I even tried the install as administrator, using compatibility mode (stepping back to Windows XP) and various other combinations, but automusic stubbornly stays greyed out.

Hi

Do you see this folder containing your smart sound files

C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc

This is the default location for the auto music files.
As a test I renamed my version as copy, starting VS 6 caused a few errors, the folder was recreated but did not work the Smart Sound panel being greyed out. I guess that’s what you are seeing.

My working version is some 4 Gb containing 200+ files, the new one being a mere 56Kb, only one file
What do you see?

Have you tried reinstalling the libraries?
Go To C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files\Setup\RunTime\Quicktracks5Installer

Try double clicking the Setup.exe to re-install
You receive an option to Modify, Repair or Remove, I would try each one at a time.
After Uninstall run again to install.

Obviously I am not sure this will work but should not cause any further problems especially as its not working anyway.

Under programData, I have "Smartsound Software Inc", with only 3 subdirectories Encoding (75 files), Libraries (2 files) and UpdatePacks (2 files).

This is a NEW installation, not an upgrade.
