Auto Music grayed out
Corel VS Pro X5 recently purchased (box) and installed. With nearly finished video, attempted to use auto music. All options are grayed out. Attempted the following to resolve: tried to reinstall SmartSound plug in using QX518 and QX518.CF from SmartSound without success. Uninstalled and Reinstalled the VS X5 (saw the installation of Smart Sound as part of reinstall). Still same problem. Then tried to reinstall the plug in using the method suggested for this problem using the Corel VS X5 program disk. Successfully uninstalled and then reinstalled the plug in. Still grayed out (with video on timeline). Installed VS X5 on another computer I own (Win 7 with less power than my main).... AutoMusic worked fine. Attempted to contact Corel email support....needed registration information....went through registration process again...received email, but, for the life of me, I can't find the registration number they want (I've only had the product a few weeks...bought just before I found out about the X6 version). My main editing computer is a fairly new HP with plenty of power (I7-3770 with HD 7770 video card, lots of memory, & AMD HD audio card). I've been through the manual and don't see a reason for it not to work...especially after reinstall). The SmartSound software appears to be installed correctly. I am new to Video Studio after years working through several versions of Pinnacle (occasional crashes and all). Perhaps someone has a new idea....since all of the install and reinstall attempts haven't resolved the problem. Thanks.

Hi
welcome to the forums
Have you installed Quick Time
Earlier versions of Video Studio contained QuickTime, I do not think it is installed by the installation of Video Studio.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Not sure why you are having a problem as Auto Music worked fine on Both X5 and X6.
BUT compared to Pinnacle Studio (crashes and all!!!!!) Auto Music is poor. Scorefitter is a much better package. Also they expect you to pay for extra music.
I use music from my library of CDs. First choose the appropriate music for both mood and for length of piece, a near match is all that is needed. As in Pinnacle you can stretch or shorten the music to fit the video without losing any of the piece. Basically you press and hold the Shift key down, click on to the end of the Audio track and pull or push the track to match the end of the video. The music will be slowed down or speeded up so small adjustments are OK but large changes will be noticable.
Hope this helps.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Quick time was installed (don't know if it was installed before, but followed the link on the VS install instructions and installed Quick Time)
I uninstalled and reinstalled V5 & SmartSound, but Auto Music still grayed out. Next step (unless someone has a better idea) will be to uninstall once again and install the trial version of V5 Ultimate or V6 and see if the trial version works (I suspect it won't, but will be interesting to find out).
Also, can anyone tell me what or where the Support number code is located on the registration confirmation email that I received. I would like to get direct support on this, as it may be more complicated. Thanks to all.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
I received an e-mail from Corel labelled "Welcome to your 90 day Free Warranty Support". In it was the paragraph:-
In order to submit your question for !QW Corel VideoStudio Pro/Ultimate X6, you will require this support code: *********. Submit your question here.
This came when I registered my copy of X6.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Hi
There is another poster with a similar problem, maybe you should view this post as well.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 85#p266985
I did suggest running the the Smart Sound installation files here:-
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Setup Files\Setup\RunTime\Quicktracks5Installer
Maybe try running the Setup.exe
I tried this and was given an option to Modify, Repair or Remove
By the way when you purchased the program did you receive two installation files, one for the program and a Contents.exe file. Or just a single file, If two have you installed the Contents file.
The Ultimate version would also have a Bonus file.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
I haven't had any further response for several days from customer support regarding the "grayed out" automusic on new install of VS pro X5 on Win 8. I did download a trial version of VS Pro X6 and had the same "grayed out" condition of automusic. I have tried nearly every suggestion that has been made (reinstalls of VS, downloads & reinstalls of Quicktime, and individual SmartSound installs.....all with no success. Since some other Win 8 users seem to be having the same problem, it is beginning to seem as though the problem is something between Win 8 & VS Pro. I am open to any other suggestions. Obviously, frustrating to have a new program (which is supposed to be Win compatible) which isn't fully functioning. When a solution is found, I will post for all to use.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Hi
I am struggling to understand the problem, but here are a few thoughts…….
As you have installed several programs all having the same issue it would point to a PC issue. I’m sure that other Windows 8 users have installed successfully.
When you install the process first extracts the installation files to a folder on the C drive, doing subsequent installs, I am not sure if these files are overwritten? If not then you could be using corrupt files?
I would remove these or at least rename the folder before installing again?
Although as you have used X5 and X6 that would not be an issue……
Smart Sound also installs QuickTracks, But can you confirm that you are indeed installing Quick Time Player and there is no confusion with Quick Tracks
Norm did mention installing QT for Vista not W8. Hmmm
I had some issues with W7 laptop, sorted by a Windows Update, one of the Optional ones for the graphics card, Can you check your windows updates.

Re: Auto Music grayed out
Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.
Quick Time: The Quick Time I have installed is called for during the normal VS install process. I simply selected the install and followed the instructions. If there is an alternate way to install, I can do it to eliminate the possibility of file corruption or incompatibility.
Here is a bit more background...the HP computer was acquired just prior to buying VS X5 (it is quite a powerful computer for video editing). There were no unusual aspects to the set up, except the new win 8 interface, which is quite different from all other versions of Windows. If I had known that, I probably would have stayed with Win 7. Most of the Win 7 stuff is still there, but it is harder to find. Thankfully, you can use the tiles to send you to a normal Win 7 desk top, which you can set up for normal use and familiar methods. I'm reasonably certain this has nothing to do with the VS issue, but just a note for others thinking of converting to Win 8. As far as audio editing is concerned, I have Audacity, Pinnacle Studio 14, Sony Vegas trial (which has now expired and I have uninstalled), Cyberlink Power Director 10 (which was factory installed), Pinnacle Studio 16 Trial which is about to expire, VS 6X trial which I installed yesterday (same grayed out condition as V5) and Power Director 10 Ultimate trial (which has expired and been uninstalled). The other editing programs and trials which have something akin to auto music seem to work fine. While I am not new to computing, windows is making it harder and harder to self troubleshoot incompatibility problems such as I have. Stumbling around without help is likely to create more problems than resolutions. I remain hopeful that Corel will provide a solution and "make it right" or someone on the forum has experienced something similar and will share their experiences. Thanks again to everyone who has commented.
