Restarting clip

Post by simonbesner »

Hello,

I just downloaded the videostudio X6 trial version and I'm dealing with an annoying glitch.

For some reasons, some sequences from mpg clips I added to my project seems to be repeating itself for no reason. The bug occurs within a unique sequence and might change the "restart" position while the timeline cursor.

Ex:
Original video = Cow cross the road, a car hit the cow then the car explode and finaly a generic

After importing the original video = Cow cross the road, a car hit the cow then the car explode, then the car hit the cow a second time

If I move the cursor right to left a couple of time, it might end up missing the first part of the clip where the cow is suppose to cross the road (replaced by a second car exploding)

I don't understand how this could happend. It's a single clip and the final display is changing even if I don'T touch anything.

I use to be a Ulead video studio user and I never had such problem. Am I the only one dealing with that kind of problems?

Best regards,

Simon

Hi Simon

Welcome to the forums

No I do not think you are the first to report this strange playback.
You could do a search of the forum, maybe you will find the posts relating to this.

However the problem seemed to be the video clip rather than the program, I know Corel would say that, but I’m not Corel.

We did not find a solution other than using a Video Converter to render to a more suitable editable format. Then playback was ok.

Can you give details of your video file, right click and select properties, what are they.?
Where did the video come from, maybe downloaded.?
Has the video been re-coded/changed from the original?

Hello lata,

Thank you for your reply.

I did extract the video myself from a DVD using DVD shrink 3.2.

The extracted file was a VOB files, which I then converted into a MPG-2 file (H.264 +MP3) using VLC media player.

I did search the forum for similar problem but I couldn't find any post on this (maybe I'm not using the right terms)

Anyway, I don't mind reconverting my files and restart my project from scratch if it's necessary. Can you tell me which video format should I use to work vith Corel VideoStudio X6?

There is no basic problem in editing mpeg files in VideoStudio - maybe it is just the process of using two external programmes you went through to get the files that has introduced the problem.

Why not import direct from the DVD into VideoStudio and let VS do all the work.

Put the DVD in your PC DVD drive and in VS - then RIGHT click over the timeline and choose "Insert Digital Media" and browse to the DVD

minor point which causes some people frustration is - be sure to put ticks in all the boxes associated with your DVD and check the "chapter" thumbnails when you get to them.

that should import direct from the DVD into VS ready for editing

Hello BrianCee,

Well, I did extract a lot of files already. That's the part of the process I don't want to restart.

However, reconverting the VOB file isn't a big deal for me. I just need to know which format is the best for Corel VS.

but it could be the extraction and conversion which is causing your problem

DV-AVI is best but Videostudio is quite happy with mpeg files.

I'll leave you to it

There is no need to do any conversion: VOB files are in mpg format. Just change the extension to mpg.

Of course if you used DVDshrink to rip a commercial, copyrighted DVD then that is a completely different situation since that is illegal.

Ok, I changed the VOB to MPG extension and it seems to work (so far).

The only problem is about the subtitles. For some reasons, the subtitles doesn't appears in Windows Media player nor VLC Media player but they do appear in Corel VS.

Where are they comming from if they are not displayed in WMP or VLCMP? Can they be removed?

There is a row of icons above the left end of the timeline - the right hand one of these is a 'T' with lines of text - that accesses the Subtitle editor which *may* allow you to deal with the subtitles.

Yeah, using Corel VS icon is the first thing I've tried.

Unfortunately, it's seems like the subtitles in the video is not handled by VS. I can add more subtitles over the existing ones but I can't view, edit or delete any of the existing subtitles.

There must be a way to remove the subtitle as they don't appear in other media players.
