Dear guru,
I am wondering is there a way to make date-time subtitles from VS project?
There are several utilities that can prepare date-time subtitles from DV file in different formats (including Ulead DVD Workshop). So it could be possible to render whole VS project as a DV file, prepare subtitles using one of that utilities and make DVD using DVD Workshop. But the problem is that VS doesn't preserve original date-time code encoding project as DV file ...
Another way is to prepare subtitles for each clip and than merge it. But this way is much more complicated and there are several problems as well: some clips can be trimmed, etc ... To do this more that less automatically you need to know at least VS project file format (.vsp). BTW does anybody know it?
I don't want to burn date-time in the clips (like analog cameras do). A lot of people do not like date-time code always showing on top of the video. But sometimes date-time code is usefull so I think that DVD subtitles is the best way to show this information.
Thanks in advance,
Vadim

The date/time of recording IS preserved in your captured video file as long as you have captured digital .avi.
read this post see if it helps :-

also if you have version 9 you can display the timecode on screen while playing back by ticking the "Display DV timecode on preview window" box at the very bottom of the "File >> Preferences" screen - then again use that information to create a small title box using the VideoStudio 'title' option which you can place anywhere on the screen in your video.

Guys,
Thank you for the answers but it looks like I was not very clear explaining the problem.
I know that datetime info exists in the captured DV files (clips).
I know that VS is not able to produce DVD subtitles.
I know that it is possible to show DV timestamp in VS and manually create corresponding titles (that, by the way, will ALWAYS be showing on top of the video).
I know that it is possible to burn timestamp into DV clip using utilities like DV timestamp.
Both of these ways to show date-time info are not appropriate for me since both of them do not allow to swith displaying datetime off.
The only right way to show datetime info is to place it into DVD subtitles. This is not a problem to use another DVD authoring software (like Ulead DVD Workshop) for this.
The problem is to render VS project preserving datetime info.

I don't believe you can preserve the date/time info when you render a UVS project file. I just checked several of mine, and the only date/time info I can locate is right clicking on the file in windows explorer and looking at the properties >Created, Modified & Accessed dates.
However I've noticed that the "captured" file name is nothing more then a date stamp. For example: usv040614-001 (June 14, 2004). In checking the properties for this file the "Date Modified" is the date that I shot the video clip.
So if you don't delete or rename your captured clips then that is a way to preserve your date and time...
