I am getting a File Format Mismatch error when I try to import .jpg , .png or .bmp files into Video Studio 5x. and 6x (trial version)
If I try using the file menu (Insert media file to time line\photo), I get an error dialog that tells me I can't insert the file because of a few different reasons.
If I try using the Import Media Files folder icon, I get a File Format Mismatch Error.
I can open these files with MS Paint as well as Paint Shop Pro so there is no issue with the files themselves.
Also, if I just drag and drop the files from File Explore to the Story Board frame, I don't get any errors and I can render my video. Since I have two copies, I installed one on my vista machine and I don't get
that error. I can import .avi movie and .mpg files with no error.
I also installed Service Pack 1 for Video Studio 5x.
I am running Win7 64 bit home premium SP 1.
Any idea?

Hi
Well I had a problem running X5 on a laptop on W7 64bit. For the last year.
Can you view these details to see if the problem is the same or similar.
http://lata.me.uk/corel/lenovo/lenovo.htm
I have cured the problem, yesterday in fact by a “Windows Auto Update to the Graphics board driver”
It may of course be totally unrelated

Re: File Format Mismatch Error on .jpg Import
I think your fix is more of a coincidence than anything. Graphics board drivers have to do with the output or rendering. My error occurs on input. And even if it didn't, if it was a graphics board driver problem, I would not be able to view the files in PaintShop Pro but I can. While it's conceivable that one of the files loaded on to your system was a DLL that was previously corrupt or Outdated, installing Video Studio Pro 6X should have resolved the issue for me. Also, this is just not happening with just one picture type (.jpg) but on several others.
What system update did you install? I would like to try it.
I took at your link and the error that was posted is the same on I am seeing.
Sadly though, I can't drag and drop files on to the story board screen after I rebooted by system.

Re: File Format Mismatch Error on .jpg Import
Hi
I have been working on this for about a year on and off, since the release of X5, I have to say that it’s the wifes Laptop so I don’t use that much for Video Editing.
I had reason to re-install the Operating System to an earlier backup. This caused the windows Auto Update to work overtime.
I installed X6 on a clean pc hoping the problem had disappeared, but no still the same, and yes I was unable to insert Jpeg images to Video Studio. Earlier I had used PSP and PI without problem, I was only having an issue with Video Studio.
The computers Windows auto updates eventually installed all up to date.
I then checked the Custom Update knowing there may be less important ones sitting there. I found an update referring to a Graphics Driver, and miracle of miracles its now working. I cannot give any other details of the actual update.
I have to say that my wife has always complained about the quality of her images, but we put this down to a smaller screen. I have not had her opinion as to whether the screen quality has improved, as I said it was only the other day that it was fixed.

Re: File Format Mismatch Error on .jpg Import
Since my install of Win7 is a fresh one(only way I know of to get rid of viruses for sure), I didn't install any of the update yet. I thought that running SP1 was good enough. I was wrong.
I then installed all the important updates. No help.
I then started to install the optional updates and I can now import .jpg and .png files with no error.
Thanks for the idea.

Hi
That is excellent news, glad the optional updates were successful, I guess you may have installed a Graphics Driver update.
Seems strange to me that a brand new pc should need this update
I viewed my update history and found it to be:-
Intel Corp Graphics Adaptor WDDM1, Graphics Adaptor WDD1.2, hd Graphics 3000
If that means anything.
Again glad your are up and running ok.

Please Help: Re: File Format Mismatch Error on .jpg Import
I am new to the forum and have searched for solutions to my specific problem of not being able to insert .jpg files (maybe other supported formats too) into my project. Of the many threads I found on the subject, this one seems to be the closest.
I've confirmed I can't insert library .jpg files (I get a Relink pop up that says "Orig file .... doesn't exist" - I try relinking and it fails) or drag and drop (or right click - insert picture) from my computer. I get a different error when trying to add from my computer ("These files cannot be added to the project. These files may be of unknown file format, the computer doesn't have enough memory or the file is copy write protected").
I purchased and installed VS Ultimate v6 less than 3 weeks ago. Up until last night I was able to add photos at-will. The problem started without any changes being done to my computer or the software. Actually occurred mid-stream of editing a project. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software 3x, registered it, applied SP1. No joy! I have verified my computer is current with MS patches including any optional patches for video board. I've tried creating a project from scratch and add photos - No joy.
I actually saved my project once as a v5 and was successful inserting photos once. After closing the project (v5) and reopening I was no longer able to add photos. The photos I had in the project would not display (i.e. black screen).
My OS is W7 Home Pro. I've even tried messing with the compatibility settings (right click on the desktop icon). Nothing.
I'm convinced something has confused the software in not accepting photos and uninstalling the s/w does not remove the configuration setting that is holding the error.
I'm at my wits end. I purchased this s/w through Amazon and evidently don't qualify for "free support" during my initial 30-days as I never got a support code.
I've just started getting used to the s/w and like it, but it is completely unusable for me if I can't upload/insert photos in my projects.
Any guidance, assistance, suggestions are welcomed.
Thank you,
Bud

Hi
I am on holiday at the moment so this is a quick reply
Are you sure your graphics driver is not the problem
Have you read my web page relating to this in my first reply?

I believe you are correct. I did go back and read your post. I updated my graphics drivers from HP and it seems to have taken care of the problem. It does not, however, explain why it worked for a few weeks and sudden stopped. I am grateful for information and am back to being productive again. Thank you.

Hi Bud
Thanks for the feedback, glad you managed to get things working, yes the Graphics Driver issue does affect some users and a little difficult to understand why it happens, maybe a windows update, who knows, All that matters is that VS is now working ok….
