What is this RED LINE over a section of my Timeline?

Post by kebrinton »

I clicked something yesterday mistakenly. I think it was one of the MultiTrim Video mark-in or mark-out arrows. I don't use them usually and I'm actually not sure that's what I hit. Suddenly a bright red line appeared above a section of my video on the Timeline. I couldn't find any mention of this in the user's manual. The line doesn't correspond to anything previously selected or trimmed off; it includes both. Now, when I try to view any section of my video, the cursor snaps to the beginning of the red-lined section and will play only that.

Can I "undo" to get rid of this -- and what is it?? I can't afford to try a hit-or-miss approach.

It means that rendering is being done. The video on that section is not the orginal source file being shown. Mediastudio Pro has a similiar system that gradually increases in red the more rendering is being done. I read it in Getting Results.

Well, that might be useful to know.

But it doesn't explain why I can't look at any other part of the video I've created. The red-marked part, and ONLY the red-marked part, will play. As if the rest isn't even there! (I'm worried that it somehow got eliminated ... )

Thank you for such a prompt reply.

sorry i am not on comp with vs, but i believe what you are seeing has to do with the position of the "TRIM HANDLES"...if you move them you should then be able to view the entire clip.......hope this helps

When you click to play, the system will render the section outlined in red first. if you let it finish that you will be able to look at other sections also.

The red line simply indicates the section of your video selected by the "Mark in" and "Mark out" trim handles - nothing more - if you want to get rid of it just slide the mark in point along left to the very beginning of your video and the mark out point along right to the very end of your video.

Thanks, Brian. I worried because I'd never seen it before -- and couldn't find any mention of it in the book, though of course it may be there under some other heading. Didn't want to proceed with any further editing if it meant I'd just have to Undo all the way back to the red line.

It's mentioned on pages 47 and 128.
