VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
Installing NB filters with X4 was not an easy task. A lot of time wasted, but finally I managed to install them (although some of NB filters space folders weren't installed properly). Proper installation of the filters with X5 was impossible. My question, is it fixed in X6? I'm thinking of buying X6, but without possibility of merging it with NB, there is no point for me.

Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
FWIW, I understand and sympathise with your concerns. I have also experienced problems in the past with installing some of the New Blue packs -- I own Essentials packs 1 through to 4 plus other individual NB filters. Eventually, the problems were resolved, but like you, only after considerable time and effort. Those which were part of the VS install, though, always seemed to install without trouble.
This time round, with X6, again, there did not seem to be any trouble with the NB filters included in the X6 package. On my count, there appear to be 25 of them this time, and all pretty useful. I have to confess, though, that I still have not gotten around to installing those of my Essentials packs which were not included in X6, but I will let your know if there are problems. I will try to get around to that today.
In any case, our friend lata appears to have come up with a potential solution if not all installed filters appear in the FX window of VS. So it would seem that the problem might be relatively easily solved.

I have VS x6... where do I find the New Blue filters? Do I need to download them from somewhere?

Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
Bob -- I am not 100% sure, but they may be part of the Ultimate bonus pack... So if you don't have Ultimate, I suspect that is the reason you cannot find them in your FX window in X6.
lorec -- bad news, I am afraid. I have attempted to install NB Video Essentials packs II, III, and IV into X6. (I didn't attempt Essentials I since that is already in X6 Ultimate.) But apart from the PnP filter from Essentials II which was part of X6 already, nothing showed -- not one!!
I followed the same installation workflow for NB which I have used in the past. In other words, the installation proceeds, the box for Corel Video Stufio is already ticked, but you have to add the path for the folder in which the filters are to be installed (i.e. the vft_plug sub-folder). Everything proceeded and the installation was completed. Only nothing shows in X6.
I then tried the "emergency' procedure Trevor had suggested, which was to delete the C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0 folder (XP?) or for Win 7 (in my case) the C:\Users\[Username]\App Data\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0 folder. This was then supposed to create a new 16.0 folder when next I opened X6 and re-populate the filter window. Only it didn't... So more investigation will be needed. I will again advise of developments when they occur.
EDIT: I should have added two points above:
1. X6 is the only version of VS on this computer at the moment. I uninstalled X5 Ultimate yesterday in a related effort to get the proDad filters and Boris to show up in the X6 FX window.
2. I have had similar problems in the past installing the NB Essentials packs on earlier viersions of VS. In those cases, you could actually see references to all the packs, and their listed filters, in the X6 vft_plug sub-folder after installation. They just never showed up in the FX window until the relevant App Data folder was deleted (i.e. 15.0 or 14.0). In the case of X6, however, there is no reference at all to NB Essemtals packs III and IV, or any of their filters, under vft_plug. Essentials I is there, as already mentioned as part of the X6 Installation, and the PnP filter from Essentials II. But nothing else from Essentials II is listed.

Not good
. I hope you're testing it with the newest install packages from http://newbluefx.com, not the ones you got some time ago, right? Because they update them from time to time.

Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
That's interesting Ken, I have successfully installed New Blue Video Essential Packs 3, 4,5 & 6 into the trial of X6 together with other New Blue packs that I have and all appear to function correctly. Is this another situation where features work on some systems but not others and with no real reason why.Ken Berry wrote:Bob -- I am not 100% sure, but they may be part of the Ultimate bonus pack... Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
I hadn't been aware of any updates. When I sign in to my NewBlue account, all I can find is references to an Upgrade -- though it is not clear whether it is an Upgrade from an existing version which amounts to an update, or whether it is a totally new version of the same Essentials package. At any rate, they want to charge me over US30 for each upgrade which currently I am not prepared to pay. The Essentials packages I own have worked with previous versions of VS up to and including X5, and they should work in their current form without any upgrade in X6.
Robert: you were obviously typing your comment above while I was typing the above! When did you buy your NB Essentials packages? I have had mine for several years... I am talking about III and IV -- not V and VI, which I realise only came out in the past year or so.

Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
I am now an even less happy camper!
I have just reinstalled X5 Ultimate on the same computer I have X6 installed on. I have tried reinstalling my NB Essentials packs on X5 where they had been previously installed and worked just fine. But now they don't appear even listed in the X5 vft_plug folder where I directed them to be installed. A great and annoying mystery!!...

RESOLVED: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
At last an end to the sorry saga!!
After trying several times to get the NB packs to install in both X6 and X5, I finally resorted to going to another computer on which I also had X5 Ultimate installed, including all the NB packs. I copied all the NB files in the vft_plug folder of that computer, and pasted them into this computer (not replacing existing NB files already there). I did this for both X5 and X6. I then went to C:\Users\[Username]\App Data\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0 [and 15.0] folders. I renamed these 16.0OLD and 15.0OLD respectively, just in case I had to restore them. Then I opened --separately -- X5 and later X6. As usual, they thought about it for a while, creating the new 15.0 and 16.0 folders, and eventually opened. And hey presto: I now have all 4 Essentials packs in both X5 and X6, and both are working just fine according to the brief tests I subjected them to.
So it does prove to be possible to install them, old versions and all -- though it shouldn't be so hard!!
Needless to say, though, it will only work if, like me, you are lucky enough to have another copy of X5 successfully installed with the NB packs which you can then copy.
So it does prove to be possible to install them, old versions and all -- though it shouldn't be so hard!!

Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
Glad you finally got it sorted Ken, All my NB packages are a setup30, some of the older ones are a setup15 and they are the ones NB want to charge an upgrade fee for.

Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
Hi Ken,
Setup30 is part of the file name for each pack, ie: NewBlueVideoEssentials4ForWindowsSetup30
The setup30 packs are supposed to have much faster rendering capabilities.

Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
Robert, so there are no problems at all with installing filters v3.0 to X6 (at least on Windows 7 and at least Video Essentials filters)?

Re: VideoStudio X6 & NewBlue filters
Hi lorec,
I had no issues installing any of the Essentials Packs into X6, just make sure that you set the correct path, when New Blue asks you to add path, type ProgramFiles(X86)Corel/CorelVideoStudioProX6/vft_plug
There are some occasions when for no specific reason the effects do not show in the vft_plug folder, in that case go to ProgramFiles(X86)NewBlue, open the relevent Essentials Pack, then open the Ulead folder, then copy and paste the contents into the vft_plug folder.
