Hi

Non Square Pixel Rendering is selected by default, you should use NSPR for all your work.
On a rare occasion you may however come across a non standard video that does not use NSPR.

Smart Render is also selected by default, if you have a problem with quality then try rendering again disabling SR
For normal editing both options can/should be used.

If you have a specific issue then give us the details.

Hi Lata
The reason why I was asking about SmartRender and Non Square Pixel rendering, I've been for months trying to figure out a way to convert some video footage from 4:3 to 16:9, I did alllll kinds of searching on the web and came up with things like letter boxing, cropping, stretching the 4:3 footage using filters in certain programs, for every trick there was always some disadvantage with the finish quality, well I don't know a whole lot about all the tricks involved but I have tested many different ways and today I have come up with a way to convert my footage and I'm VERY impressed with the finish results, using ProX 5 and save my footage with these settings.
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 16:9, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Compression: DV Video Encoder type 1
Data type 24-bit RGB
Audio PCM
48000 kHz16 Bit,Stereo
This may not be a big deal for you guys but I wish I knew of this way of converting my files before, and if there's even a better way I'd sure be happy to know,if there is please let me know because when I watch the footage that I have changed from 4:3 to 16:9 it sure beats any method I've found on the internet.
Thanks

Hi

Now only if you had described your problem….
The problem I see is the properties already show as being 16:9, can you explain????

Your video looks like bog standard DvAvi, probably the best format to edit, especially for standard definition.

Read my guide regarding “ a look at Widescreen”
http://lata.me.uk/video_studio/16_9/16_9.htm

Written using VS 10 still applicable for latest versions.

First go to F6 preferences and tick Show Messages when inserting……….
Start a new project, add your clip then choose details, view the properties in the right hand panel, copy and paste the details to the forum.
Then press yes/ok to set the project properties.

When you have re-sized the project, Share Create Video File Same as project settings

This should help.

Hi Lata, actually I have no problem right now,but I did forget to mention when I had SmartRender and Non Square Pixel rendering checked, the finish project would not get saved in 16:9,it would stay 4:3. So that's why I wanted to know just what do SmartRender and Non Square Pixel rendering do. The original footage was avi files but was filmed at 4:3. The settings that I provided above was the settings of my finish project.
I will take a look at the link that you provided. Thanks

Update, thanks so much for the link you provided , its the first time I used the ,''Distort clip option". I see you said in your link to,'' select ‘Fit to screen’ and select ‘Keep aspect ratio' Well I prefer the results of just selecting, ‘Fit to screen’. The results are better in my opinion, less edge loss.I know the video is a little distorted, but nothing I can't live with.
This way of converting footage from 4:3 to 16:9 ,is basically the same as "cropping" that I've seen on different sites, but the results seem to be better.
The only negative thing about the way you have suggested to do this is when you have many clips on your time line you have to do this for EVERY clip or save a file first than do the converting from 4:3 to 16:9. The way I suggested in the very beginning works for as many clips you have in your project at the same time.( you don't have to mess with the ''Distort clip option").

Hi

You can copy the Attributes, that’s the re-size/distort from one clip to the rest.

Set the first video clip to the size you require, 4:3 to 16:9
Right click the video clip and select Copy Attributes.
Shift + Click the last clip will select all
Right Click and Paste Attributes

All clips will be re-sized.
