Special differences of VideoStudio X5 and X6

Post by surogat »

Hi,
there some annoying things in Video Studio X5 Pro and I hope this things are not existen in the new X6 version, but I can't found information about this little differences. That's why I'm asking here:

In X5 there are some "features" that I not want:
1. Application windows is not minimizable

2. Render dialog shows only procent of rendering process, nothing more. I would be nice to know how long it takes. Time elapsed, time estimated, GPU and CPU load and so on

3. Use of x264 free encoder and decoder not fully working

4. More than 20000 kbps in high profile of MPEG-4 not possible

5. Recording of games in fullscreen not really working

6. Attribute settings of images for overlay tracks reset to wrong behavior every time one uses transport controls

7. Poor preview quality

8. Not all Windows Media Codec quality levels possible

Thats some of the things I would like to see in X6. If someone is already using X6, maybe he could leave me a note about this things.

Unfortunately, I bought my version of VideoStudio X5 Pro on 05. March 2013, so I wasn't aware that this is an old version.

Thanks for reading.

Can this two versions exist in parallel?

Yes no problem at all - I and the other admins always have more than one version in parallel as you put it so that we can check our answers - as long as you only try to run one at a time.

I currently have four versions all working correctly on this PC.

FWIW, here are some of my own observations re your questions. My comments in red:
1. Application windows is not minimizable
The VS X5 window is certainly minimizable, as is X6's. It was a major advance in X5.

2. Render dialog shows only procent of rendering process, nothing more. I would be nice to know how long it takes. Time elapsed, time estimated, GPU and CPU load and so on
X6 does not do this.

3. Use of x264 free encoder and decoder not fully working
Which free encoder are you talking about specifically? And what is not fully working with it?

4. More than 20000 kbps in high profile of MPEG-4 not possible
As I have said in another thread here, it is still not possible directly i.e. it is not offered in the Share > Create Video File dropdown menu. But it is certainly available if you use either Share > Create Video File > Same As First Video Clip or else you create a new template by using the Add function in Make Movie Template Manager and pointing it to a video clip on your computer which has a higher bitrate. Thereafter that template will always be available.

5. Recording of games in fullscreen not really working
I'm afraid I never got it working at all properly in X5 and have not even tried it in X6. In any case, it is too limited in format and frame rate, and I have other screen capture programs which already do an excellent job.

6. Attribute settings of images for overlay tracks reset to wrong behavior every time one uses transport controls
Not sure what you mean here.

7. Poor preview quality
It remains much the same as in previous versions. Mind you, I have various other NLE packages (Sony Movie Studio 12, Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013 and Cyberlink Power Director 11, and none of them do a noticeably better job.

8. Not all Windows Media Codec quality levels possible
Have you installed Windows Media Encoder Series 9?

Thanks for the answers. :)

Regarding the single points I wrote:

1. Of course is VideoStudio X5 minimizable but not if it is currently rendering.
3. Various errors regarding FFDSHOW. Furthermore, it's for example only possible to include MPEG-4 formats in AVI containers. Thats the only option where I can select external encoders like FFDSHOW, x264 and so on.
4. With the "Same as first Video Clip" functionality its working. But the second functionality, through creating a new template, is not working. This will only work if you have AVI or MPG files. Its not possible to open MP4 or M4V files for template creation.
6. If I add a image as overlay, this image will have the wrong aspect ratio. I can set the attribute to respect the original size but after using some of the transport controls or I do something other in the application it resets to the wrong settings. But I solved this problem.
8. Yes, of course. I even own a Microsoft Encoder 4 Expression license. But the support in X5 is somewhat limited to standard profiles. But this is at the moment not important.
