Crash from DV Quick Scan

Post by Boris2 »

I have VS Pro x5 and if I try to use DV quick scan, I get an error message saying :-

"Corel Video Studio Pro
The program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning. Please contact Corel Technical Support and send the dump file for analysis."

Followed by the path and file name of the dump file.

Windows then closes the program and "attempts to find a solution"
No contact details are given in the error message. From the Corel web site it appears completely impossible to contact technical support. I just keep going around in circles to faqs and knowlege bases.
Does anyone know a solution or have any success with DV quick scan? It used to work really well in version 10.
Or does any one know how to contact Technical support?
Thanks.

Strange as it may seem it appears at the moment the best way of getting technical support is to post on this facebook page :-

Hi

If you are running Windows 7 then there may be an issue with your IEEE firewire driver.

Can you update your profile to include your PC specification, thanks.

To resolve this issue, you may need to install an older Firewire driver on your system.

Further to lata's post, can you capture any video using DV over firewire -- as opposed to the DV Quick Scan function? That will give a quick indication whether you have a firewire driver problem of the type lata was referring to.

Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, I am using Win7. I had found references to the problem with the Win7 firewire driver and tried the legacy driver as recommended in various places on line without any change in the result, which was dissapointing. I did try direct capture without doing a quick scan first and it seems to work at least for a while.

For the moment, the solution seems to be to go back to XP and version 10. Hope this gets fixed soon.

Hi

My desktop pc is using XP, a long time ago I have tried Quick Scan but soon reverted to the normal capture method, then edited the timelines to remove the unwanted frames.

I don’t think I had any problems, just did not like the concept.

I am intending to update the operating system to Windows 7, just waiting for Postman Pat, hopefully that will be in the next few days.

I will try the Quick Scan options and let you know, but as I say still waiting for the software……….

Hi Boris

Well I have finally re-installed the operating system and now running Windows 7.
I will do a test for you trying out the DV QuickScan.
It is a long time since I tried, I did not like the process and simply reverted to capturing in the normal way.

Anyway I will give it a go, and apologies for not replying earlier, I have to admit I simply forgot……….

Hi Boris

I ran a quick scan for 10 minutes then selected every other clip.
No problems, no crashes.
The files saved ok to the working folder and populated the timeline OK.

Are you able to capture using the normal approach, from the capture window and selecting DV as the capture format.

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for doing that test for me. At least I now know that I am looking for something specific to may system rather than a general VS problem. Are you using Win 7 64 as I am?
cheers

Hi Brian

Yes 64 bit, as my pc profile to the right of the post. Update your profile via the User Control Panel

I did ask if you were able to capture using the normal approach via the Capture window rather than Quick Scan, or does that cause problems.

By the way I know there is/was a problem with Firewire drivers for W7, but I have not had any problems and not had to change or roll back my drivers.

Just looked at the Device Manager and I have Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI….

All updates are installed including all optional ones.
